Default hp dc7700 hp processor thermal protection activated (2 beeps 5 times)

so i have this bussiness PC i bought .

i only used it a few times . i plugged in, beeps 2 times in 5 intervals.

hp says the hp processor thermal protection activated

how on earth would i reset it? the machine does not POST.

i left it unplugged for a day, held down cmos reset for 30 seconds, left battery out , its in a really clean room so there is no dust inside and the fans work .

Ill take the fan off and apply some thermal paste.

    1) Try powering it up with only the monitor connected.

    2) It probably has more than one stick of ram, so try one at a time.

    Any update on this?

BTW- I seriously doubt the processor is overheating unless someone was messing around with it, or a heat sink clip is broken. This is especially true given that the system doesn't even post.

In most cases, the beeping will be caused by a defective device such as ram or a video card, or a failed mobo.

    HI Seth.

The system does turn on for a few seconds and turns off. I disconnted the speaker when i last tried so i dont wake up the kids

The machine has on board VGA. but i disconnected ALL hardare .

even tried one stick of ram, in the first slot (black)

I just got it from the ERA (about 130$ ) i really dont want make it an issue to exchange it.

Looks like it's the cpu and/or mobo.

Neither would be a cheap fix given how much you paid for it, and you could replace the processor or mobo only to find out that the other is also defective.

Ok ok. If its the MB , do you know if my MB would support the qx9650? I see they are the same socket set. I did internet searches with no avail.

    Thank you
