    Default Calgary Accident over weekend

Another reason not to drink and drive, or not to speed and drive. Article says alcohol possible factor, and obviously speed was.

She and her husband are calling on the city to install a pedestrian overpass for the busy intersection to prevent future pedestrian deaths.

Can anyone enlighten me on how a pedestrian bridge and the thought of pedestrian death has absolutely anything to do with what happened in that crash?

I read that if there is anything alcohol related in either car that is invloved in an accident they will report it as "Alcohol being a factor" to pad stats.

At first that doesn't sound that bad but the example was given of a closed case of beer being in the back seat of a car that rear ended someone else and the case was obviously damaged and leaked and the media and police reported it with "alcohol being a factor".

It was on some anti-MADD site.

I'd like to see an actual, reputable link on that claim. I can see how MADD would BS the stats, but I have trouble believing the police would say alcohol contributed just becuase it was in the car.

Looking now but I can't find anything with a good reference. Searching anything with "Alcohol a factor" just gives a lot of news links lol.

Here's an interesting, but unrelated Anti-MADD article with references if anyone is bored:

The article has commentary from some pedestrians who were walking across the street from that location 1/2 hour prior.

My take is that the moment you are anywhere near moving vehicles, you are ay risk. Who the hell is going to climb endless overpasses to avoid the 0.001% chance of being struck by a nubtard like this.

I think it merits some celebration, you're forgetting that he also totaled a cavalier.

Wow that was such a pointless article...

First a drunk driver kills himself, then goes on about someone being hit by a CTrain. We should then build a pedestrian walkway, and then tops it off with "no one obeys the 60km/h speed limit", because yes, drunks obey speed limits. This is the kind of article that Markham would write if he wasn't plagiarizing.

Exactly. On a side topic, get rid of fucking pedestrians getting the right of way. I put the ratio well above 70% that the reason why pedestrians get smoked is they step out with disregard for vehicles.

I actually almost agree, except the pragmatic side of me realizes that it would make life very difficult for people with disabilities/children. I would prefer things like how it is in many parts of Europe - you're on your own. But I'm young and agile, so it's not really fair for seniors and such. Plus, too many fat people in North America.

Europe (at least UK) still has many marked/lit crosswalks where pedestrians get the right of way and some of them are with traffic lights so pedestrians actually get their own green and don't force traffic to miss a green light while they cross.

Simply the fact that people know they can get run the fuck over also ensures people cross at a reasonable pace and are more aware of their surroundings.

As far as I can tell, it's a good system and it works.
