    Question Outside city limits

I was recently pulled over for speeding by CPS officer who set up a speed trap on SB HWY 2 outside the City of Calgary corporate limits. I understand that CPS have the ability to interpret the law outside of their jurisdiction, so I know the legality of the ticket stands. Though I will admit that since he is paid by the City of Calgary it seems a little odd he is policing elsewhere...

The question I have on this though is since the offence wasn't in Calgary is there any chance of having the court appearance held else where?

So where exactly on Highway 2?

There should be a court house listed on the ticket.

That info is listed on the ticket. I bet it says DT Calgary.

He was parked on the far right side going up the hill before Stony Trail. I was in the left lane. He used laser, and by the time he caught up to me and I pulled over was just before the right lane exits. I was still looking ahead to the city limit sign.

It is a standard CPS ticket with the courthouse downtown being listed.

SB HWY2, right before Stoney. What's CPS doing out there? Did the city limit change?

City boundary on Deerfoot on the north side is at Stoney Trail - signs may have not been moved. See city of Calgary map here.

No, that seems to be where the signs were. I was still outside of that when I was stopped.

the city owns up to but not including highway 566. the "welcome to calgary" sign is always well within city limits.

i work in airdrie and see the CPS parked under the falling bridge all the time. they hide in the shadow and will pick out drivers in both directions.

You are right that the City limits are from 566 south....but only go east up to the service road and then go south to 144th ave and do NOT include highway 2 until you get to 144 ave, which is just north of the stoney trail exit when you are going south. If you look at the map linked above you will see that.

He was outside Calgary City limits, working Airdrie RCMP jurisdiction. You could try and argue court of jurisdiction would actually be Airdrie, but I doubt they will do anything as it is so close.

Whether or not his job is necessarily policing that area, he still can. Shitty for you but it's the way it is

I understand that, makes sense. Just seems a little odd that they need to be so far out. Oh well. I'll see what happens and if anything can be done in getting it moved.

Had an officer stopping me for using my phone. I wasn't. And point out to the NAV/bluetooth screen that I would have been on handsfree even if I did. Didn't give me a ticket but wasted 10mins.

I don't think they would stop you for coffee.

You can drink coffee, I'm pretty sure.
