Default Recommend a 50"+ LCD for $1500 or less

In the market for a new TV and those are basically my requirements which I think are reasonable. The room is really sunny and don't feel like closing the blinds every time I wanna watch TV so plasma is out. Sports, movies, xbox. I really don't want 3D at all. Open to LED. Likely buying at visions since I think APEGGA gets some discount and their warranty is pretty good.

    Cheers,
    Matt

EDIT: This one is onsale and seems decent. Any opinions?

    ^^Cool....

Anyways I think I might be more open to plasmas more after talking to a sales guy at Visions. The glare isn't as bad as I had always thought and size + picture quality would be better on a plasma, always shied away because of glare. The model he pointed me to was the Samsung ES6500 plasma which actually was a 60" vs the 55" I was looking at for the same listed price.

    Cheers.

Plasma's are the way to go man.

Glare isn't as bad as people say, picture quality is waaaayyy better the led, they are cheaper and def. don't have the same burn in problems of the past.

I would go for the panasonic plasma, hands down the best one out in my opinion.

Like the above poster said, if you buy a plasma, buy a Panasonic. I'll be in vent later on playing Dayz if you want me to check some prices for you.

Cool man, I'll hop online. Haven't played in a bit too.

From a bit of researching seems I'm down to the 60" 6500 Samsung or 55" Panasonic ST50. Both seem amazing and right around that 1500 mark. Though that one for 800 bucks is nice and hella cheap!

In any case I would buy a Panny and plasma. I suggest Vann's as the price is great. as is the service in my experience. Order a Panasonic (made in Mexico so free trade is working for you here, pay GST only at the border) online or call, swing down to Montana and pick it up at either a store (day trip) or a border drop (afternoon trip).

Personally I'd take the Panny: Panasonic TCP60ST30 (Black)
    http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...onic-tcp60st30

    A $2,000 TV for $1,500.

Yeah I noticed Bestbuy has similar pricing to that for the newer ST50. The 55" ST50 is $350 cheaper at the US Bestbuy than here! Really leaning towards the Panny after reading more reviews.

Well I ended up getting a hell of a deal. Picked up the 55" Panasonic ST50 from Visions. Price matched Memory Express' price and then added a 5 year warranty for $80 extra. Turns out the TV was sold for $200 under cost Get the full warranty cost back if I don't use it so for $80 to get ~$269 back in store credit just makes sense!

Nice deal. Now after you have broken in the screen, 100 hours I think, you should Google around for the proper picture settings. Check right away that nothing is cranked up on the unit, like brightness for example. Five years with a modern TV is a solid deal.

On my Panny, one of the modes pulls the screen out a bit, great for sports, movies, etc but some channels have a white line on the top in this mode. Did you cycle through the Zoom modes to ensure you are on the proper screen format mode?

Retail pricing on anything large is for suckers.

I think I'm even luckier than I thought. Memory Express has up'd their pricing on the exact TV to 1699 from 1499 which leads me to believe it was a misprint. Somehow, my impulsiveness saved me money?!

Not a misprint, they were most likely just using it as a lost leader and selling it at cost to get people in the store. Or sometimes TV manufacturers will give retailers special deals during certain dates on certain TVs that they might be over stocked on or want to clear out.

The TV at Memory Express was a good deal, but Visions price matching it with an extended warranty is a very very good deal. Typically deals like that are for one weekend only, or a one day event, limited quantities, no rain checks.

Sometimes things just work out that way, I once got Futureshop to price match Dell.ca for Logitech Z5500 speakers at $199, you got the same kind of deal on your TV.
