This is always the advice I've gotten. Never have I been charged with drunk driving, but MANY speeding tickets and have procured the services of a few lawyers for those infractions.

Why do the drunks always live in these cases? I understand that their reactions are slowed and they are limper, but tightening your body wouldn't kill you 99% of the time, I will never understand how the fuckin idiots that cause the accidents always live, and innocent people die.

Speaking out my ass, my guess is mainly because the drunks do the hitting so they usually hit head onto something - seat belts and air bags saves their lives. In this case, the couple, in an old truck with less safety equipment than the C63, were also not wearing a seat belt. In many cases (I feel) the victims get side impacted or something along those lines, which likely increases their likelihood of not surviving.

^Also, since they are the ones crashing into something else, they usually realize at the last second that they are getting into trouble and manage to steer just enough to make the impact point more on the passenger side of their vehicle. This usually kills the passenger of their vehicle though. Case in point: Nottebrook - killed the driver she T-boned and the front seat passenger in her vehicle. She's fine.

That article is eerily providing a lot of information about the accused. I hope the victims get justice.

What a joke, two counts of failure to provide a breath sample.

Reduction of charges shouldn't be allowed as part of a plea deal.

After entering the guilty pleas, defence lawyer Belfour Der sought a lengthy adjournment for sentencing, saying Jaswal is trying to complete the third year of his kinesiology degree at the University of Calgary.

What a absolute joke. So he was drunk. Killed someone and gets a slap on the wrist and gets to go on like nothing happened. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Failure to provide breath sample is just as bad as a dui. His case wasn't winnable. Doesn't seem like there's a plea bargain either, so pleading guilty is pretty much the worst that could happen for him in the eyes of the law.
