    Default Paint Free Dent Repair??

I got home to find my cars ravaged by the f***ing hail storms in Calgary. I am pretty sure I'm not the only Beyonder with this issue...

I have a couple of questions about paint-free dent repair for anyone who is knowledgeable or had experience with it. I have no idea how this thing works.

    a) Do places charge by the dent, by the time, by the pannel, etc?

    b) Can any body part be fixed? (My C-Pillar has a few dings)

    c) My aluminum 300zx hood got pretty beat up. Its tough to see currently, because its dark out, but it looks like there's a lot of dents. Would it even be worth taking to PFD, or would I be better off just buying another hood?

    Per dent.

Anything can be fixed if the backside of the "skin" can be accessed, and obviously if the dent is fixable with PDR.

You are probably better off with a new hood if it has more than 30ish dents.

IMO, OP, it'll be better if you inform your insurance co. first. Seeing this isn't an isolated case, your insurance will have numberous clients with this issue... they'll group their clients who got hail damaged (tonight), and they'll setup a location where they'll have their apprasiers assess the damage.

Some insurance will have access to such things as a Paintless Dent Removal hail team to be assessing what can be "PDR"... and some damages just can't, so it'll have to be fillered and repainted, and some damage would be more economical and effective to just replace the particular panel.

After your insurance apprasier has a claim number/file, and an assessment for you, then you can plan your repair shop preference... so there's no need to panic.

If you're claiming under insurance, there's not much you can do by just stopping into a dent shop or bodyshop... there's nothing that can be done until your insurance approves the "in-house" estimate being submitted.

If you're "private paying"... hail damage is quite a bit to repair/replace.

Thomas (TomCo) helped me out lots in the 2010 hail storm.

It basically happened exactly how he put it in his post. The exception was that Thomas recommended a slightly different repair than the original appraisers which tripled the original estimate. He fought with the insurance company for me and everything came out perfectly.

The total bill was around $8000 for the insurance company.

    Thanks for the replies.
I contacted my insurance company, and it looks like they are gonna take care of me.

I'm assuming a pretty bad dent on my A Pillar can't be PDRed? I doubt you could reach the back of it.

Depends on per damage bases, and per technician skill bases; able to fix pillars. It gets worked from the outside (pulling dent from outside), since nobody should be drilling holes to gain access from the inside on structural areas like pillars.

I got some minor damage like 8 dents, just curious if I reported it to the insurance company would I have to pay the deductible and they would cover the rest? Prolly wouldn't be worth it for me then.
