Metallica in Edmonton - Updated Through the Never Trailer
Anyone go tonight? Ears are still ringing, by far the most epic concert I've been to. Massive budget on the show as they're filming a movie out of the next few shows. I won't post spoilers until after tmr's second show. Gonna try to see it again in Van next weekend.
Apparently they couldn't do a Calgary show because their insanely complex set couldn't fit at the dome.

(Too bad this wasn't discussed earlier, we might've been able to meet in person finally.)
Ears are still ringing,
Earplugs, my friend. The musician variety, which only cost about ~$20, and don't muffle the sound as much as safety earplugs.
by far the most epic concert I've been to.
Agreed. It was a bucket list item for me. My first Metallica concert, surprisingly. It was a gaping hole in my concert-going portfolio that I was finally able to fill.
I won't post spoilers until after tmr's second show.
I'm curious if they'll make any changes to the setlist for tomorrow's show, or keep it exactly the same.
I've been to 4 other Metallica concerts in the last few years, and I've been waiting to see and justice for all live. Holy shit they did not disappoint!
I checked the setlist of the tour, which IMO was a mistake. I would've liked certain parts of the show to be a surprise, and there are some major spoilers in the setlist sites. But ya, with the way the set and choreography is designed, there will be minimal changes to the setlist.
So if you're going to this show in Edmonton or BC, I suggest NOT checking the setlist sites or reading reviews. The experience will be much better. I always check the sites to see what songs are being played (and fuck was it ever a great setlist) but the problem was certain elements of the stage show is revealed in the lists.

I'm gonna be at the Van one on the 24th. Got some lower bowl seats and gonna be an ape-shit crazy concert. I haven't been this excited for a show in a long time.
I'm not a Metallica Virgin, but it's been a long time since I've seen them.
the stage production was awesome, sound was pretty good too. You could actually hear Lars' kick drums - most of the time.
Lars and his drum tech, sound guys have to get with the program and use drum triggers. He just can't play the complete package anymore, he's not 25.
As far as old guys, rocking - Metallica is one of the "tamest" old school metal bands still touring.
Example:
But it was a good show, If Metallica wants to keep touring (And they might as well for the cash) They should keep bring up the production value because the actual live playing is suffering a little bit.
They only play 2 fast songs, Battery and hit the lights.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."
Edmonton show was better than the Van show IMO. There were too many cameras ruining the stage show in Vancouver, and cuts in audio to the PA to record the crowd singing along for the sake of the movie.
In Edmonton, they concentrated on filming from the front row fan's perspective, so cameras were strictly in an extra front aisle. Zero distractions for the fans watching the show.
They're doing an extra day of filming in Van, they're running the show again but with breaks and replays to catch all of the missing camera angles that they need to do. $5 a ticket tomorrow night.
