What do you guys use for firewood splitting? Or do you just buy the pre-split bundles?

Was camping with friends and tried their fiskars maul, it worked great, but might be slight overkill for most camping purposes.

Fiskars seems like way to go, but they have a ton of models.

Maul or axe? Fiskars or other?

Anyone in here have a surge protector for thier rig. I know for the full-timers they are pretty popular, because the large rv parks in the states seem to have low, high and ever-changing voltage. I'm so rarely plugged in when I camp, I figure it's less risky, but of course, just need a problem once to damage things.

Anyone?

I have never seen one... we go to Kelowna every year for full service camping and have not seen one... never had an issue or thought I needed one.

Why not? A ramp and a pickup and you are only limited by the distance a full tank of fuel will take you.

Also it doesn't hurt to ask the location if they have a service available. Some places have a guy in a vac truck that will come around to drain your tanks and top off your fresh.

Well, killed my old cheap Chinese 2000w generator on the weekend. It coughed its oil out the exhaust and died. I assume there's no point even thinking about repair.

Anyone been past a Costco lately to see what's up with thier current supply of generators? New trailer has AC, so wondering about a 3500w unit or 2x 2000w in parallel. Have heard good things about the newer champion inverter units, although I know page one of this thread trashes them.

Yamaha and Honda still the premium choices? I have a week or so to figure this out, but another 25 days camping planned this season, so want to get myself sorted.

Was camping at Kinbrook Island this weekend, had some assholes come through and steal our cooler full of beer. First time we have had any type of issue like this camping.

Shit, that seems really handy! I've never heard of one before, but was thinking about this exact thing the other day. Too bad there isn't a way to have the motor ramp down as well, so you don't get the noisy shudder when it comes to a stop.

Apparently those MicroAir units are little miracles. The rumour is that you can run a 13.5K BTU AC unit on the Honda EU2000 Makes sense, as that AC should use about 1650 watts once it's started, but means the initial startup power must be hugely reduced. If that's true, could probably run my 15K AC on the new Honda EU2200

Gear Tip - Best and cheapest mod for your trailer or RV is to buy thse Camco Vent insulators for the bedroom roof vents. Blocks 100% of light, so you can sleep in.

Campground Review - Dutch Creek PRA. Not too far off the beaten path, only about 20 minutes on gravel, and 2.5 hours from the city, but well out of cell range. Has a creek running through it, and isnt terribly busy. FCFS. I grabbed what I consider the best spot Wednesday at 5PM, there was other good spots available until Thursday evening, and even Saturday morning there was some spots available on the inside loop. No wood or water on site. Bring you own. Racehorse Creek, Oldman North, and Livingston Falls are somewhat nearby, and all pretty good. I like the this one for the creek though. Interestingly, they sell about ten of the sites seasonally, so there's a bunch of senior citizens who live there all summer. Handy if you like to chat, and means there's a kind of informal block-watch in case your kid wanders off.
