Spent the last few days working on bedding for my teardrop camper:

    - 5 hours of cutting material
    - 15 hours of thread injecting
    - 2 hours of cutting foam
    - 1 hour of stuffing the foam into the mattress covers

I could have gone the easy route and just toss a mattress in there, but I wanted something I could tuck away so I could use the rest of the trailer to haul coolers, chairs, etc and not on top of what I was sleeping on. I ended up coming up with a tri-fold (quadrafold?) mattress design that would fit under the rear table top.

The extra pad on top extends the mattress to the curved wall so I get a 9" more inches of head space. The mattress measures 6.5' long.

Up next: redesign the cabinets and add some electrical.

What's the bulb trim? I think I'll redo the sides and top for sure. I do have the gutter above and it seems to work well. When i folded up the door I could see a ton of light around the bottom hinge area.

One other idea, I did this on mine. It’s ‘vinyl base trim’ that has a nice lip. Attached with caulk, stretches and has worked really well..

When I used to live in the NW I stored my trailer in the SE. Now that I live in the deep south I store in Okotoks. If weather has told me one thing it's that NE storage is a gamble with hail.

I'm pretty sure that I'm leaving Canadream. $80/mo doesn't seem like a great deal. Theres a few places by country hills and deerfoot, two with confusingly similar names, that I want to check out.

If a guy can save $20/month and be somewhere 5 minutes closer to home, that seems like a win.

This is true, but somewhere 30 or 45 minutes further from my house sounds awful.
I have insurance in case of hail.

Has anyone here ever towed their vehicle with a Class C Motorhome? I'm wondering if it's worth getting set up to tow our SUV (2013 Q5) so that when we rent an RV, can just tow it behind us instead of my wife having to drive behind me.

What would i need to buy and would i need to modify the Q5 to allow it to be towed? Is it just a tow bar and no modifications to the car?

EDIT: well scratch that, some quick googling says you shouldn't tow an awd vehicle at all. oh well.

Yeah only certain vehicles are built to be towed in that way. I also think most RV rental places wouldn't let you tow anything with thier class C units. Heck, not even all class c motorhomes are made to tow. It gets complex pretty fast.

Surprisingly Cruise Canada allows you to tow with all of their Class Cs. The thought had not even crossed my mind until i read their FAQ and they mentioned it.

Yeah that was the original plan, but with my 8 month old daughter that gets really fussy in car rides, was trying to get creative. Last trip a couple of weeks ago for only a 1 hour drive with wife following behind, baby was crying in the car for half the time so wife was slightly cranky when we arrived lol. 2.5 hours will suck but will just have to make a few stops and deal with it. Will probably try skipping her regular noon nap to see if she can sleep later in the afternoon when we drive.

So, not a camping "trick" but I finished our remodel last week. Now I just need "Home away from home" in script adorning the wall to complete the glamping look...

Whoever thought a full size diesel should be sold with a 96L fuel tank should be shot.

    Looks great Kloubek!

My trailer has been damaged in the recent hail. Just cosmetic as far as I can tell. Has anyone been through this before? Is it worth fixing through insurance or will it sky rocket my rates? If I go ahead with the repair, can I claim hail damage again in the future?

Keystone hideout 26LHS if it matters.

Hah, it's even worse with the Gas engine in those trucks. I get like 300 km/tank. Brutal.

Hail claims do not affect your individual rates, It's worth doing a claim, although depending on your situation it may be better to take the payout and NOT repair it. I had a trailer written off by hail, and it worked out great for me. If the damage is fully repaired by insurance, yes you can have future hail claims as well. If you take the payout, you can't. Lots of variables, but no reason not to make the claim.

How does the payout situation work if the trailer is not a write off? Thanks for the insight.

There's a few ways it can work depending on how your trailer is insured. If it's under your vehicle insurance (which is most common), then it works like any hail claim, where they give you the estimate, and you just take the cash. If it's under home insurance, that may works differently. Really, you just need to start the claim and then worry about these details later. Hail claims are very simple.

If you have a broker, they can also advise you on this.

@ExtraSlow I’m not getting much better. A full tank plus 20L Jerrycan netted me 465km yesterday.

Titan tanks sell a 48 gallon replacement gasoline tank for the 6.5' bed F150. That's 181 litres. I'll bet unloaded you could get nearly 2000 km/tank. Or like 700 km when towing. That would be sick. Not cheap though.

Bumper pull VS 5th wheel pros/cons, say 30' trailer.

    Go.
