Just checked my 6volt batteries, both showing 6.43V and I haven't touched them since September. Online charts show that's still a full charge, kind of surprised they hold up that long

Batteries that are not damaged and which are completely disconnected will hold a charge for a very very long time.

Need a brake controller for my taco. It came with the wiring harness, so can skip a few annoying bits but just need the controller. Best value for the buck? Only towing a hybrid trailer with it, so nothing crazy.

    About $170 for the P3.

I always buy Tekonsha but I know lots of people who buy the Reese brake evn and it works just fine ($80)

Sorry, I edited my post. Get the vehicle specific harness with the controller. If your truck has the 7-way wiring at the bumper, and the plug under the dash, this should be all you need.

I had a pendulum based system, and I hated it. "true proportional" only for me from now on.
I can't say what system the various budget options use. But prodigy P2 is about as cheap as I woukd personally go. Saving $100 to have a controller that is a pain to adjust will ruin a vacation almost as fast as running out of beer.

What's also incredible to me. Is how good the Ford and GMC factory brake controllers are. Flawless and easy to adjust. I don't an on requiring aftermarket ever again.

The harness has to have the right end for your truck AND the right clip for the controller. Hard to say if the one you have now fits that.

Edit: that P3 is a higher end unit than the P2. Better resale of you ever want to unload it.

Seems like there's a universal side on the controller, or i just buy the toyota version. Prob just order it and then if its needing the right one, get that.. Wont be towing till may/june anyway

Why do these need to be self-leveling.. what am i missing?

I believe this is moot. I found it next to impossible to sell my P3 for anything reasonable. I ended up selling it eventually for $40 as every truck i have had since, has an OEM controller. Get one for the features you need and don't consider resale.

Could be true, it's been a lot of years since I've sold one, and I wouldn't buy one either, so I take it back.

No, I don't mean that. I just mean I buy trucks that have the OEM TBC units now, so I am not buying any kind of aftermarket unit, new or used.

What's the payload on a tacoma? I figured they weren't capable of towing much.

Newer ones are just under 1000lbs depending on config.

Trailer tongue wait relates to payload though.
