Have any of you guys been in the path of a tornado while out camping? We are going to Aspen Crossing (mossleigh) this weekend and I would think they would get some pretty severe hail/storms possible tornados out there.

Of course, it’s Alberta tradition. Not fun. Last one was 3 years ago just west of Olds. It knocked down numerous huge trees blocking in the campground and many people had hail damage.

Yesterday was the first time I've ever repacked the bearings on my trailer by myself (friend suggested I do it once just so I knew what it was about). I found out there was no way to remove the rear seal without destroying it (ended up driving around the city to find it on a sunday), but more importantly there was some scoring on one of the bearings so I'm glad I did it before my trip next week. I'm going to also pick up a spare set to keep in my trailer (just in case).

So for the other fellow trailers newbs in this thread, just a reminder with camping season upon us to make sure you (amongst other things) maintain your wheel bearings.

its pretty abnormal to be able to save the rear seal, it always gets trashed, you can get them at standens for a couple bucks each, now that you know what you need, buy an extra set.

I did my bearings this spring as well, i was surprised they looked like new, grease was barely even dirty, i have owned the trailer 4 years and haven't done em yet... i know its a bad idea to go that long, that's why i was surprised they looked great

Heading to dinosaur prov park. The weather this weekend went from cloudy, to showers, and now to thunder showers since I started checking it yesterday. The amount of rain is at worst 5-10mm in a day which is not nearly enough yet to make me change my mind.

Just a plug for the best firelighters. Zip brand, just light the wrapper. Very good, intense and long lasting flame. Unless your wood is very wet, one is sufficient.

I'm looking to trade out the incandescent 912 bulbs for LED. need 10-15.

Is $5 each a normal price? Seems excessive

Fully agree to above.

I also went the amazon route and got directional lights which only have leds on one side. Way brighter and my draw with all lights on in my trailer including exterior lights was 1/4 of just 1 light on from before.

Im thinking about getting a camper for work instead of some of the shit motels I've been staying in, I'm just wondering experiences with the avg full service site, this will most likely be at random campsites closest to whatever town I'll be working out of. My biggest concern is I want to bring my dog, how hot does your trailer get if the services stop? If he had water it would be ok wouldn't it, not like a car on a summer day? Any other long stay things to think of? Thanks

My dad worked out his trailer for years, you have right to be concerned about the dog. A lot of campgrounds have crappy infrastructure and I would not trust them. You would have to leave vents and windows open to ensure your trailer is not an oven.

Was 29 degrees in my trailer yesterday at 9pm when I got there to take it out of storage. Wasn't even that hot yesterday.

Lending the trailer to a relative this weekend. They've never towed before. Gave them pretty extensive instructions. Should be fine.

Anyone in here have a surge protector for thier rig. I know for the full-timers they are pretty popular, because the large rv parks in the states seem to have low, high and ever-changing voltage. I'm so rarely plugged in when I camp, I figure it's less risky, but of course, just need a problem once to damage things.

Landlord made me an offer to gtfo of my lease early so they can start Reno's on the house. I think I can work with this as the new place may not be ready until Sept...

Thoughts on some super inexpensive campsites around southern Alberta to check out? No hookups needed but proximity to a dump/fill station would be awesome.

I know there's a bunch down around the 940 that's random, I've seen RVs down in Indian graves, waiparous and McLean of course. Anyone have some other suggestions? Seems we have almost 2 months of wandering we can do...

If you dint need proximity to city, Cataract Creek, Livingston falls, Dutch creek are all nice. I'm headed to Dutch this Wednesday. Love that area

Lots of good random areas down there too, so no daily fee. Don't think there's any close dump stations. Used to be one at Highwood house. But it may have closed.

The dump at chain lakes is five bucks, cash only.

I can't say as I remember seeing the Highwood house open in the past few years. But I was always out at odd hours in a tow truck so...

That areas a gold mine of random camping, but RV shopping - no clue what black capacity will be. I'll have the Rav4 for restock but that doesn't help on the dumps.

Dinghy question - if I throw a tow bar on the Rav4, and probably a set of magnetic tails - is that all I need? RV will definitely be 50% heavier or way better so no trailer brakes needed. But isn't there a breakaway system or something to that effect needed? And does that change if I head to BC?
