I’ve actually been looking at those! Might meet my perfect level of interesting and capability.

Wasn’t the most recent one a quad turbo?
I think the quad turbo was only sold overseas. I don’t think the M50d was sold in Canada either, and very few sold in the US. Honestly the twin turbo ones are the most reliable and not that far off in numbers. Lots of mods available too for reliability/deletes etc.

Not sure if it’s been done.

But a cool thread would be a “black sheep” tow vehicle thread. Basically post vehicles you wouldn’t think of that are surprisingly great at towing. Basically anything but half ton trucks.

I have been trying to solve that “problem” myself for a while.
    Mercedes have good towing capability.

The other issue is that they don't come with all the goodies that trucks come with now - you have to wire in an aftermarket brake controller, they don't have the cool backup options, they don't have separate tow/normal fuel economy tracking, etc.

We tow our 19' (~4000lbs wet) with an E70 X5 35d. Tows like a dream.

What I have in mind does not require a brake controller so that’s a nice bonus.

Honestly. I’ll probably just buy another Sierra, I’m just trying to be open minded and I have no need for anything on the near term.

The engine is the least important part of a tow vehicle.

    For towing? No not important.

For me to find it interesting? More important.

    Great looking setup man

How difficult would setting up a WDH with the Expedition be? Rear has air suspension...

    Any good resources to follow?

Anyone want to help me out for a 24 pack of Superstore Beer/Biere?

Curious if anyone has experience with the EasyStart Soft starters or capacitors that allow you to run the RV AC with a small 2000 watt generator? Can't seem to find a Canadian dealer and the place I've been getting my RV repaired at isn't familiar with things like this.
Currently running a 2000 watt Champion Inverter Generator. Was tough getting the 4 yo to sleep in the trailer this past weekend and would like to get the AC going without upgrading to a bigger generator.

Yep. I own one. Only place I coukd find is in sylvan lake. Very crucial to do the "learning" mode with trailer hoojed up to real 30A power, or at minimum 15A with a shirt thick extension cord. Insufficient power during learning gives weird behavior which you need to repeat the learn process to remove. I have fucked this up a few times.

Want to buy mine? It's for sale.

Alright, good info. Message me with some details. Curious if you got it to work and what size generator you run yours with? I'm new to this electrical AC thing so I'm hoping it fits my need.

You should have no problem running a modern 13.5K AC in "low" off of a 15a circut/2000w generator. That is a true 2000w genset not a 1600w/2000w peak champion. Make sure the AC is set to low and ECO mode on the generator is off. Peak current draw should be about 11a and settle in around 9a. Just make sure every other device is on propane (fridge and HWH).

Tested the AC last week before heading out while plugged into the generator. Everything else was off, AC fan turned on, when the compressor started the generator would bog down and the breaker switch on the generator would trip. Couldn't get the AC to start blowing.

That’s because camping and AC are incompatible..

What, you don't enjoy annoying your neighbors with a generator running full tilt all day? What kind of 'bertan are you?

Thats fine, just nothing drives me battier then people who go camping and then run a generator all day to the point that they block it out and dont give two shits about their neighbours.. If the forecast is 35 degrees and you need AC.. maybe dont go camping where you need to run a gen

i'm still a little toxic from the chinook experience. People show up at 2 pm, 30 seconds later, generator is on and stays on until 11 pm

Currently have a 2000 watt Champion inverter generator. The older version of this https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/c...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I'd like to stay with the 2000 watt genny due to size/weight and the fact its a quieter one.
Totally agree as I'm not a fan of all day generator use either. My goal is to run the Generator for an hour prior to my son going to bed so the AC can take the edge off. Last week was the only time in years we've needed this. Hoping for a cheap fix rather than upgrading the generator.

I hear ya. Its especially worse with people that a 65db open frame generator is enough. I rarely camp unpowered and especially not in the peak hot months. Also, how else can i run my margaritaville?

Kidding aside, if you run into these clowns, report them. Rules or not, a 10kw construction generator is not appropriate for camping.

My point, you are a 1600w continuous, 2000w peak generator. You will need something that is a true 2000w continuous or a minimum of 15a. Your running amperage is only 13.3. With the other parasitic loads you dont have enough headroom for the initial start. Its likely a soft start cap wont even work for you.

Look for one that is labeled as 2200w. My suggested would be the honda. Or potentially get another champion and daisy chain.
