Keep a bucket of water at your campsite when a fire is going. A four year olds leg got lit up tonight and their parents panicked and ran to a water tap instead of rolling them. That kid is in a world of hurt right now.

Quite the hailstorm heading up to Etherington on Friday. Highway was inches deep in hail/water, had to pull an F250 w/ trailer up a hill as they couldn't get any traction, was like trying to drive on icy ball bearings if you got out of the ruts.

Campground was 15 minutes away, bone dry and nobody had any idea a storm had just missed them.

Yikes. Yeah those can be so hyper local, and crazy intense.

Yeah it was wild. Good thing the Jeep is on its third or fourth damaging hailstorm or I'd be upset.

Does anyone else upgrade their vehicle brakes for towing? Last brake change I put in some awesome ones and had virtually no fade going down hills like the Coquihalla (OEM was garbage on there), but they've only lasted 2-1/2 years and not very many kilometers.

    What are you guys running?

Poor endurance is often correlated with high performance

Oh I know it, but there's got to be a happy medium. Im running EBC Yellowstuff, but am feeling cheap for the next set (or cheaper anyhow)

I used stoptech rotors and pads on my last truck and performance while trailering was great improvement over stock and they lasted quite well, way better than stock. Consider better fluid as well.

I’ve used Hawk pads to stop my truck from 200 kph passes on a track. Seemed like a good performance increase from stock and had much better cold holding power, building boost on launch. What does that have to do with towing and camping, no fucking idea.

I have also used Hawk HPS and found them to be a significant upgrade in Motorsports. They definitely eat rotors faster, but boo-hoo. Looks like Hawk SD is designed for your application. I'd try that.

I have a vehicle with EBC Yellow in right now as it apparently used to eat pads at a lustrous rate. They seem great.

I hate to sound like the tow police but what truck and trailer? I have never had to upgrade pads over OEM in any of my tow vehicles. I have done some knarly passes through BC and quite frequently did the kootney pass.

I typically tow/payload close to 6000# in a truck that can handle 8000, so I'm good there, I'm just a fan of excessive braking capability. It only takes one time with brake fade (down the Coquihalla on a +30° day) to make you realize the importance of it.

Yeah better braking is worthwhile. Only time I experienced it towing was with one of my 3/4 ton trucks, and the trailer was light enough for a half ton. Operator error for sure, looking back.

Considering fade can be a thing even if you aren’t towing I don’t judge if you are trying to accommodate extreme scenarios, and let’s be real if you tow regularly from Calgary into BC there is definitely some extreme conditions in the way.

Duramax with the EFI live towing tune provides awesome turbo braking. You hardly have to touch the brakes on a lot of descents. I also run the Powerstop z36 brake upgrade kit. So far I like it much better than OEM brakes.

Mine was awesome even without a tune, locked the converter and tow haul mode going down hills and it would not have any issues holding 13k lbs without much braking on most hills.

Diesel engine braking is a great feature.
