I think you just explained why MS doesn't need RIM.

RIM can save their e-mail infrastructure by getting out of phone business and turn to strictly software based. But I don't think RIM is a leader in that game either, nor did that ever got out of the lab since they really want to leverage their QNX purchase.

The new phones look great. Really like the Nokia 820, (Don't like the harsh edges of the 920/900).

But the Samsung Ativ S looks awesome to me. (surprise!). Micro sd card expansion, bigger battery. Basically an S3 with WP 8.

Keeping my eye on it. I am a big fan of Windows phone. Mango just wasnt there for me. Hopfully WP 8 brings the apps etc.

I thought this would be interesting to link on this thread. The camera was demonstrated taking a photo of a vase in a dark room at the conference.

I'm just waiting for some real reviews to start showing up

The Nokia conference was not planned very well now that I think about it.. They did not release pricing, carriers, availability. It could be months before these are released. The iPhone 5 will be announced next week, and released soon after. This will be forgotten..

It was a paper release. There's not even a Windows Phone 8 SDK out yet.

Anyone that has any 3D or 3D bits in their apps and want to rework anything for WP8, will have to rewrite ALL the 3D stuff.

No SDK and tons of rewrites doesn't sound good.

But it's a necessary change, and better do it now than when your 5 iterations in. Look at apple, they moved away from the PowerPC chips to Intel..that was a massive change in terms of application compatibility ect, seemed to have worked out alright for them in the end, and allowed people to use Windows on the machines at the same time. I used to use a Mac Mini with XP as my carputer for a while, whereas before I wouldn't have touched them at all.

I'm an iphone guy and think Android is terrible...

But I think Windows phone 8 could actually be something to consider if the next iphone is a bust.

Not flash. It just turns on some light while it autofocuses before the actual picture is taken.

I've been using a HTC HD7 on Mobilicity for a full year. Mango 7.5 is a fantastic OS. I've got a iPhone 4 on Rogers and personally prefer the HD7. I'll be getting a new Nokia to replace the iPhone 4 once they are released.

I have had a Nokia 710 for ~6months now and I am in love with it.

I had a 3gs for some years then switched to the 710 and I love it.

My gf has a iphone 4s and I really hate the OS now. Mango is so fucking smooth.

I am pretty excited about w8 as well!

Ditto, bought a 710 for myself and my wife outright and loving mine. Been about 6 month as well, pretty much as soon as they came out. Fantastic OS and is so fast. Was on 3GS before that as well. Don't forsee myself upgrading anytime soon (even to W8) as it does everything I could ever think of that I need for the time being.

You can get a 710 for $200 from most places without contract. mobilicity has a sale on them for $200 all the time (like right now). Once unlocked ($18 online) it can be used on any provider in Canada and north America, has all the bands.

Unlock instructions and a list of providers you can use after it is unlocked:

Its a bit clever for Microsoft to go with bright colors because it gives the consumer choice and makes the phone stand out = free marketing.

Everyone I know with a windows phone loves them.

It seems the Lumia is spec'ed a bit better than the HTC. Don't know if its enough to convert me tho but still very interested.

You may get your wish Don
It's a start in a very positive direction. Perhaps the resurgence of a double-digit pricing for RIM stock?

Quite tempted to buy RIM stock just to see where it'll go haha.
