No one asked but …I was thinking lol So total spend to hit the point bonuses and what not was about $25k (money you spend anyway, bills, going out etc.) on a regular 2% return card you get $500 back but seeing how I redeemed for $8400 in regular priced biz class flights, does that make my return effectively 33% on $25k spend?

    Aeroplan marth lol

So I got this email for the westjet world elite. Is it worth it to get this card?

"Take a friend for less with the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡. Get the card and receive a companion voucher for a free base fare for your travel buddy to anywhere in Canada or continental U.S., just pay the taxes, fees and other ATC.* We’ll also pack on even more savings by giving you up to $450 in WestJet dollars to put towards any WestJet flight or vacation package."

It will pay for its annual fee fairly easily with the free checked bags and the companion voucher saves a fair bit if you have to fly farther than BC or Sask within Canada.
It used to be far far better, and was my go-to primary card, but now I only use it for travel stuff. I think it's worthwhile.

If you fly WJ, it's worthwhile.

Just got the following email in relation to my Westjet Mastercard:

Companion voucher Premium cabin fare increase
For companion vouchers issued on or after June 30, 2024, the Premium and PremiumFlex fare will increase by $100. There will be no changes to Basic, Econo and EconoFlex companion voucher fares.

Is this only relevant for the companion fares with the card?

I have a couple from status I need to use up.

    Probably still a good deal

I swear to jebus there is an error in the CT gas rewards earn right now. If you "swap" for teh community offers, you can get two bonuses per fill. I got $8 back on a $92 purchase this week, which feels like an errors.
there's constantly a $3 or similar bonus got a fill of 30 litres.

8% if my marth is right?

Is that not fairly normal for CT Gas with Triangle card and RBC linked?

I'm doing a big purchase soon and was curious what Beyonders think is the best 'value' point system out of the three:

    - WJ dollar (1.5% for every $1)
    - Avion points (1:1 ratio)
    - Marriott Bonvoy points (2 points every $1)

I think Avion is the best and from what I read because of the flexibility of usage, and there's no price cap on how much you can earn; next is Marriott; WJ dollar the least value out of the three because you can only use it on base fare so maybe(?) it's nice for first-class seats?

You want points you have no issue using. That's why I went with the triangle card because I'll always need shoes and sweat pants and jeans and wiper blades.

Unfortunately I don't have the Triangle card so based on your logic, the Avion points confirm that it's the best option of the three. This is why you're the Genesis of good ideas

If you're a Rogers/Shaw customer, getting a flat 2% cashback on everything (and 50% more on Rogers/Shaw bills) for no annual fee seems like a no brainer.

If you are using avion 1:1 and not on the air travel redemption schedule should dump that card and get anything else.

WJ$ redemption, for me, has been the best. No constraints on dates, fare classes, or other bullshit. You just credit it against your flight invoice.

I fly a fair amount though, no issue using the dollars.

Works for vacation packages too if you like letting your kids pee in a pool while you use incorrect spanglish to order beverages.

Hoping I can get Beyond wisdom without reading 130 pages. Right now my wife and I have the RBC Westjet card and a TD First Class Travel. I travel with WJ enough that I am Platinum so get all the perks I need, but since we fly WJ a lot I do like the WJ dollars. That being said, I feel like we can optimize our card game. A few friends are recommending the Amex Platinum - would it make sense to keep the WJ card and replace the TD card with Amex? Are there any issues for where we can use an Amex for purchases vs visa/MC?

The WestJet redemption rate is pretty mediocre.

Basically you are using it for the annual companion voucher especially since you have platinum anyway. 1.5% or 2% earn is pretty easily beaten.

AMEX is definitely the least accepted card, especially internationally. Some people claim the lack of acceptance to be overblown.

AMEX platinum is pretty gold standard for benefits though. Especially with a first year bonus.

Probably the perfect combo would be an AMEX platinum for most spending plus a cash back Mastercard or continue using the WJ Mastercard depending on your quantum of value that the companion voucher gets you compared to the annual fee. MC is pretty widely accepted as a backup card.

I would guess the rewards for even buying WJ flights with the AMEX is a better ROI than the WJ Mastercard.

That said, I own neither of those cards and exclusively rock an Avion IP. Maybe not the most optimized but works for me.
