It's worked every time I've done it. I think it was on redflagdeals where they mentioned some transactions were being reviewed. There's also another way to optimize the 5x fuel purchases but I have only tried it at 7-11 with Petro Canada pumps. If you pay at the pump, it's a gasoline purchase and the merchant is Petro. But if you go into 7-11 and pre-pay using their 7-11 POS machine, the merchant will be 7-11, thus 5x points. You just have to ensure you are going to use the entire amount you pre-pay for as getting the difference back is a pain.

Gift card hack is a bit more stream lined. Just test it out once or twice and see.

I have had no issues with AMEX at all since I first signed up with them.
Seems like 5x on fuel gift cards is easier than this method.. if the gift cards dont get reviewed

Yeah, RFD effect, these come in waves and amex (allegedly) has cancelled bonuses for people buying gift cards. The regulars there say they just buy more cards every time they get groceries and stack up $100 GCs at home for their purchase elsewhere.

Remember where we all saved 15c/L on safeway fuel? Feels like that, but hopefully it lasts longer.

I travel an okay amount for work and personal (~10-12 trips/year. Mostly US). I use BMO World Elite and TD First Class. I think the BMO World Elite is the only card that gives bonus points on booking travels (beside I think the more $ amex?, and the TD). Works out to ~3% back in points, which is pretty good. Also ~2% on dining, great for those expensable work meals. The 4 lounge passes are nice bonus.
I talked to a BMO business adviser today and they told me the bank forces 2FA and they only support SMS and email. Canadian banking is so archaic.

Doesn't seem worthy of a new thread, anyone have any experience with WJ status and flying on delta?

From what I read I should be entitled to most of my WJ benefits on Delta but with my booking even with my WJ ID card coded into the ticket its not obvious to me that is being recognized?

Only thing that really matters is the free bags, which delta is prompting me to pay for, should I expect to have to just deal with that at the counter on the day of the flight?

At one point I had really high KLM status but it was never really recognized when I flew Delta. I still had to board with gen pop since it seems everyone has at least priority. I also didn't look that much into it, as I rarely flew Delta.

Delta is supposed to automatically recognize your WestJet status including free bags.

ok, well ill give them a minute to process and see where it goes.

Delta is even stingey-er than WJ when it comes to bag fees.

Give me the TLDR on the cobalt for travel in particular?

WestJet MC is pissing me off.... Alternatively I might look at switching to RBC Avion WE

I have no loyalty to MasterCard, just the card that can benefit me the most.
God knows we spend enough on it, I'd expect a little better reward system.

I got over $900 on the Costco card in rebates this January which seems like a mistake because we eat at restaurants about 75% less than pre-CoVid and we're not burning that much fuel.
I'll take it, but I dunno what the Hell we bought that got us so much.

Minimum 1pt/$ spent depending on category
1 Amex point = 1 aeroplan point if you transfer

Works great for me cuz it’s mostly restaurants and gas/travel so it’s accepted where I use it.
Pro tip go to grocery store and buy some gift cards alongside groceries to get the 5x points.

But I remember you mentioning kids and sports so that triangle world elite Mastercard could be a really sweet one for you

More of a rant than anything but WJ rewards is being frustrating, spent enough in 2023 to bump My status with them another level but they took so long to process the flight they aren’t including it in my 2023 spend and put it in 2024.

Kindof a joke, doesn’t seem there is any real mechanism to dispute either.
I’m a credit where credit is due kind of guy, took a few weeks but WestJet appears to have addressed this which is nice.

Ha the status share is pretty shit between the two, but you should be able to get minimum free check bags and seat selection. POSSIBLY sky priority boarding but very unlikely any complimentary seat upgrades.
(I experience it the opposite way - Delta platinum status, which at least gets you comfort plus seat (basically westjet premium) upgrade immediately after booking, free drinks, and everything mentioned above)
With Nexus at least you’ll get Precheck (from USA) - removing shoes is the worst part of security in/from Canada.

    https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/who-we...elta-air-lines
Baggage is mentioned in the broad description, but opening the link doesn’t provide any details regarding the baggage and gets stuck between endless loop between the previous page. Very helpful…

Took the plunge and got the Amex platinum too
    Budgetballer things lol
100k points sign up, $799 fee but 200 yearly travel credit and 200 dining credit knocks it down by half
The points itself worth about $2k aeroplan value so that’s nice
Hopefully don’t have to use the travel insurance, heard the lounges are hit and miss but hopefully can try one for some freebies and hotel upgrades - mister boost we have upgraded you to blah blah or not

This card is strictly just for travel as the cobalt blows it out of the water in terms of accumulating points.

    Just sharing.
