How are the cash back cards these days? I’m still on TD cash back infinite.

Anything better? I think some of the reoccurring bills were capping credit card use to 2% or something. I don’t remember which, maybe Telus.
I'm still on the TD cashback infinite as well. Haven't found one better after moving away from the Scotia and MBNA's. Also just got the RBC westjet card on deal. $450 bonus this year and fee waived. Too bad I just booked a trip to Mexico before getting it, but we travel enough and with the 4 of us an upgrade or extra baggage will be nice.

Maybe some of you have looked closer at the WJ RBC than my wife (I truthfully haven't looked at all). But we have almost $2,000 in WestJet dollars and a voucher. So when I was thinking about flights, in economy class, I thought 'well surely we have enough to cover most if not all of that going to Japan'.

Well she comes to me and says there is a cap on how many WestJet dollars you can use per trip or per seat or something, which makes zero sense to me.

So for you who have used the WJ card to travel, what has your experience been with it using the voucher + WJ dollars?
There's a WJ dollar cap, yes. And I don't think you can stack promotions but never tried since I have no vouchers.

You can't use WJ dollar on taxes; just base fare, which is the 'cap'

When you look at the breakdown, majority of costs are taxes.

EDIT: @TPIM and @2Legit2Quit beat me to it!

That doesn’t sound anywhere close to true, and is easily checked.

There a minimum, too. If you only have like $20 in WJ$ they won't even let you apply it.
WJ$ are not why people buy this card.

I got mine in the mail a couple of days ago but I was using it thru Apple Pay the same day I applied. Thought that was a neat feature that RBC does.

Just patiently waiting for the bonus WJ $ and the voucher so I can book a trip. Hopefully not too much longer.
Could be 6 weeks, unfortunately. You need to spend something the instant you get it. Then pay the first bill.

You can’t pay it with WJ dollars. This was also an international flight where the destination charges are particularly egregious

For certain routes the other charges + taxes are the bulk of the total fare. For eg, to hawaii I think the total ticket was 800 with the base fare being 600. But for heathrow, the total ticket was like 900 with the base fare being 400

Dont quote my numbers cause it was a lot worse than that if I recall. Basically makes sense to use partner ticket on destinations like hawaii where the base fare is a high % of total fare but not to uk where its a very low %

    Good info thank you guys!

Missing my grandfathered Capital 1 Aspire, that thing was great but eventually not nerfed.

The Rogers World Elite with 1.5% CB and no annual is really good, 3% CB on FX (technically only 0.5% after the FX charges). I'm thinking we should use up those WJ dollars and voucher somehow and get rid of the card.

Was curious...but for you guys with AMEX cards, do you still find issues with not a lot of POS taking AMEX?

In the process of switching out my main CC from Triangle WE to the Rogers one, how have you been finding it? The offer of 10% back on your Rogers bill and no annual fee if you pay your Rogers bill with it every month was what made me go for it

As for AMEX (I have a backup basic AMEX) it's becoming more accepted but definitely not as widespread as VISA and MC here in Canada...states is simple though

My company card is an Amex, and I don’t think I’ve ever been turned down with it. Granted it mostly gets used for hotels and dining.

I’ve been thinking about finally getting the Amex platinum when they have a good promo. Does anyone recall what time of year they have the 120k points bonus?

Pretty much all grocery stores sans Superstore take Amex, all gas stations, Amazon, whatever other online sites take Amex.

I'd say there's more than take Amex than don't, when then the terminals most likely accept Amex the retailer will say they don't accept or advertise they take Amex on account of Amex takes a higher cut than Visa or MasterCard

impossible with 2 infants and a toddler

I have enough Hilton points for a 2 week all inclusive stay as well, at least those won't expire

Good to know. No Superstore or Costco is disappointing, will have to crunch the numbers to see if that AMEX and PC card make sense.

I don't think AMEX charge FX fees for transactions in the US on any of their cards, I've certainly never noticed any on my statement

The 3% on FX is limited to USD transactions.

Haha thanks, but no good promos on now. They were doing a 135k points back in November, right now its only 85k points and only if you renew after the first year (65k bonus after $6k spend, then another 20k after the 14 month mark).

Rogers WE is different than the Rogers Connections which has the Rogers Bill benefits and is relatively new. 1% cash back on connections vs 1.5% on the WE. I like the idea of 5 free Roam Like Home days and the 30% cash back bonus when redeemed against Rogers bill with the Connections, but not enough for me to switch the WE over personally.
