I get better discounts than they do and I represent 1/1000 the buying power..
They also don't get a lot of discounts anymore because they're such a PITA to deal with in terms of support. They have a lot of dumb people over there.

When its nearing the end of the year and you havent yet run through your entire budget you'd better buy some stuff to justify asking for a budget increase next year.....

    Gov't mentality for ya

Base models are about $28,000 for the city, still pretty pricey though

That's any large corporate structure for ya. More money at your disposal, the less you bother with finding better prices. Knowing people who sell big companies products, it is basically 'we'll take that one, send the bill to this department.'

A pantograph arm breaking off could be potentially dangerous. Every situation is different. The live catenary wire could have also been damaged. I'd personally rather wait for an hour.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

You take a bunch of "tiny" expenses and eventually they add up to a big expense.

You're right though. Stuff like this really isn't much of the budget. Most of your tax dollars goes to labour. Are you okay with layoffs instead of cheapening out on vehicles?

I guess they can all drive Caravans for $20K a piece. But really $8K over 3 years (assuming the depreciation cycle) is peanuts.

Just be happy Calgary Transit isn't rolling around in Mini Coopers or ML350's
