Apparent drops of blood and a cryptic message reading "Murder was the case," were discovered one block away from the scene of a suspicious death in Mission Saturday morning.
The homicide unit is investigating after the body of a man was found early Saturday morning outside an apartment building.
Officers were called to the 1400 block of 4th street S.W. for reports of a disturbance around 4 a.m.
They arrived to find a man dead outside and are treating the death as suspicious.
Police have not yet confirmed how the man died.
"Given the fact that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding it, the homicide unit was called out and they are currently investigating," said duty inspector Kelly Chalmers.
Just before 9 a.m., a passerby alerted police that someone had written "Murder was the case," in chalk just one block away on 14 Ave.
There, police discovered drops of what appeared to be fresh blood by the message, a red Toyota truck that was in a collision and debris from the vehicle on the road.
Police then taped off the scene for closer examination.
Investigators have also cordoned off a large area where the man was found.
"We're in the early stages of the investigation and we don't know if the two scenes are related," said Acting Duty Staff Sgt. Todd McNutt.
No one is in custody.
The victim has not yet been identified.
An autopsy will be conducted next week.
