SRS question - your daughter is 14 and you believe she only access internet under your supervision. When you do believe that she will start engaging in sexual acts? 16?18?20?25?
This is my thoughts as well. I will say I am sad to hear her story... but I mean the first incident of the guy having her pictures and threatening her and the family receiving them also the police knocking at the door...Originally posted by euro_racer
While I feel sympathetic about the bullying that lead to the suecide, I also feel like there is more than meets the eye to this story.
How did her past keep on catching up to her? Why did the bullying keep happening even after she moved schools/cities? Why is this 14-15 y/o having sex like its nothing (never mentioned it was her first time and she did it knowing the guy had a gf)? Why did she not press charges in the cyber stalking or when she got beat up? Why is she posting the videos online?...
Hate to sound like a dick in this manner but somehow I just feel like there is two sides to this story. I'm not trying to pass judgement because I do not know the person and their character or the circumstances, but I almost want to say that it seems like she might have brought it upon herself for attention. Ultimately I blame social media like Facebook for changing society, it amplifies awareness negatively and positively. In this case it contributed to haunting thos girl making it hard for her to move on and start fresh (even though she could have cleaned up her account). Also parenting is a big factor that comes to question.
a.) Why didn't the police go after this guy for child porn?
b.) At this point as a parent, I would shut down my kids facebook account and any other site they associate with, I'd put the computer in the living room and keep it monitored.
When she moved, how did she get found again? The information is typically there if you WANT it to be there. I get it, the internet is a scary place but thats why we need to be very cautious with whats out there and you can't get rid of it all.
The bullying did get out of hand, but the parents should have been more involved (least with the facts we have on hand from this story).

I thought she was just flashing tits? Where are you guys getting stories about her sleeping around?Originally posted by rage2
Some of her story is fucked up too. I mean, she brought a lot of the hate onto herself. If I met your girlfriend, and she told me you were on vacation and I went and fucked her, you'd probably kick my ass too. That's not bullying, that's karma.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!
Watch the video?
If you read the stories in the media, they've all conveniently left out that detail.

my takeaway from this, if/when I have a daughter I'm keeping my computer in the kitchen and internet access automatically shuts off after 9pm.
gotta find a way to demonstrate to them that internet is simultaneously really awesome and the worst thing in the world. it is not to be fucked with.
Good luck with that pal. Over protecting your kids has the likelihood of making matters worse than the (slim) chance that it can escalate to this. Think back to when you were a kid and when your parents said you couldn't do something. You'd just want to do it even more. And likely in secret.Originally posted by b_t

I COMPLETELY agree with you. If you don't stand up for yourself, they're just gonna keep coming at you. I was stupid enough to hide my pain until grade 10 hit when I was reunited with friends from elementary. They taught me to just let it out when I'm being bullied and forced me to join rugby. Rugby made me realize i may be a short asian but when I'm pissed off I will destroy you (sorry asian from church hill team for cracking your rib). You just have to keep your head up even when everyone around you seems like they're against you.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
I started getting bullied in grade 8 and 9 pretty bad… started with a few people and next thing you know it felt like the entire class was teaming up.
Smartest thing I ever did was snap… in a matter of 2 weeks I smashed out one guys front teeth with a metal bar, choke slammed a kid that was twice my size, and pulled a knife on a kid who was trying to follow me home after school. Got suspended for a whole 4 days and a “talking to” by the principle and my folks, also felt pretty bad about the one guys teeth later… after that, didn’t get bullied at all. Went on to have a pretty decent high school years, even became friends with some of the above persons mentioned.
Moral of the story… stand up for yourself at all costs.
I do agree with Rage that it is the cowards way out but if your pushed to your limit and feel like your not worth anything your obviously not gonna be thinking straight when you off yourself.
putting it in the kitchen and limiting their time on it is overprotective...?Originally posted by clem24

probably doesn't even matter. at this rate internet and cams and phones will be so ubiquitous there will be no way to keep them off it.
its like the "don't talk to strangers" stuff though. most kids understand the importance of it. there needs to be a comparable lesson taught about the internet. seems to me she could have stopped a lot of her problems if she had just been more careful - not particularily with the flashing, but doing things that made it so easy for this guy to connect that picture with the rest of her life.
Since he's a parent of a teenage girl I'm curious his thought process. He believes she will only use the internet under his supervision because she knows better and respects his wishes. Fine, okay, I'll go with that. But I'm curious, if all the kids in her classes are ragging sloots and have sucked on a penis before their 16th birthday, does he believe she too will be sexually active, or does he believe that she'll wait until she's more mature, like in her later teens/early 20s.Originally posted by BerserkerCatSplat

My daughter doesn't even have a Facebook account and has no desire to even want one.
As for sex, that will come eventually I'm sure, but her personality doesn't show signs of engaging in it anytime soon.
For guys that got bullied growing up and overcame their attackers, I honestly 100% commend you for standing up and establishing that confidence. There has got to be an immense amount of satisfaction when you see that attacker's face turn to shock when you finally push back. But the circumstances are completely different for boys and girls getting bullied, especially at that age. Moreover, this is a girl going through puberty ffs.
+1 on terrible parents. But they'll likely be reliving how terrible they are for the rest of their lives. However they did move, it's not like they just sat on there with their fingers in their ears. Certainly more could have been done though.
For those saying why didn't she tell anyone, why don't some rape victims tell anyone? Fear. It sounds like she tried to seek help but not sure if she actually got any.
Regardless of the discussion going on, this is still a very sad event and I hope that instead of "promoting" emo kids to off themselves like some of you are alluding to, it rather brings to light and promote the options that are out there if you need somewhere to turn.

I remember half the sluts in my high school acted the same way in front of their parents. The biggest honors student (female) was also fucking a 50 year old teacher.Originally posted by 89coupe

I'm pretty sure everyone takes a bit of shit and hates on someone else at some point growing up. Seems pretty normal to me.
There certainly always seemed to be a couple of kids that got it way worse than everyone else, and they either snapped or just took the abuse until switching schools from what I can remember. At the time I always thought they just brought it on themselves, but looking back I'm not so sure how it really started.
I also remember in my Junior High there were always some sketchy girls (like.. 13-14 years old back then) that seemed to do nothing but smoke cigarettes and cry about their 18-20 year old boyfriends. That seemed to be the easiest way to ostracize yourself at my school as a female.
Are society is just fucked up... Stories like this are sad.. But I mean fuck , why would she not delete her fb .. Done and done.
Also bullying has always happened like this. When I moved to Canada , I got bullied because I had a british accent , I came home one day with a black eye and my dad asked me what happened . I said some boys beat me up and took my jacket .. He asked why I didnt fight because and I said I didnt want to get in trouble .. He then told me if anyone ever did that to me again , I had permission to punch them back.. So the next day same guys tried again and I kicked all there asses . Never was bullied ever again in my life..
I think kids are to sheltered with way to many helicopter parents.. They never learn to do things for themselves and just run and hide.

If you've ever been around people who have these sorts of problems, you would know that it's not just a matter of dropping it. Your comment is both insensitive and ignorant. Have you ever had any depressed friends? Was your reaction to tell them to stop being a pussy? If so, I'm sure they thought your insight was profound as fuck.Originally posted by JAYMEZ
