The reason I'm asking if I'll formally start discussions with VW Canada. If I have a decent case for it.

I think the biggest concern is that you had that ECU flashed since 2012. Regardless of fault, I would be worried VW is going to blame it on the mods/flash and deny any responsibility.

Either way, shitty situation all around, but onto bigger and better things I suppose?

Whether or not he put his family on blast...He chose to do what he did. As did his little brother in taking the car.

Yes everyone knows everyone...and regardless of Don doing it one of the rest of us would have called him out on it for sure...

Even if there was no money shift and it was just a very odd coincidence, if the motor blew while Don was driving fine...But it was in the possession of someone who shouldn't have been driving it.

There is no worry. It's a foregone conclusion. The ECU's automatically flagged TD1 with any tune, and guys that have TD1 flags couldn't even get CV joints replaced under warranty, let alone an engine component like the valvetrain. It'll cost more to fight VW and get denied than to fix it.

Yup. For people who know me here, I love my brother and he's the best little bugger anyone could ask for. I would've never taken his car because I respect it and the hard work he's put on it. I see him in the garage working on it and made that car unique and stand out.

If it was me who blew the Golf, I would've posted it and we all would've laughed about it.

If he asked permission to drive it, then I would've just let it go.

All he had to do was text and say, "may I drive your car?" All I ask is a full tank and we good.

I have issues with him bagging it as if he owned it. If he continues to drive the way he does, it'll escalate. I'm just glad it's only the engine and no other person was harmed.

So any clues as to why valves were toast in all 4 cylinders? The only way I can think of that happening is money shift or timing belt timing being way off, and it looks like both have been verified and ruled out.

No, that won't accomplish anything. Goofing around is fun from time to time, but the novelty wears thin if you do it all the time. I want him to drive sensibly. That's all I ask.
