Default Pedestrian run over by cop responding to call of pedestrian being run over

RIP to the guy, that's just shitty luck. Almost like a Mr.Bean episode or something.

A man died after being struck by at least three vehicles on a roadway north of Toronto on Thursday morning, including a police cruiser that was responding to a report that the victim had been hit.

York Regional Police say they were called to a stretch of Yonge Street, just south of King Road, at 3:30 a.m., after a report that a male pedestrian had been struck.

Police received the call from the driver of black Honda Fit who reported striking a male pedestrian on the roadway.

But an investigation has determined the pedestrian was hit by another vehicle, which police are now looking for.

That vehicle is described as a silver, 2006-2010 R-class Mercedes SUV with front-end damage in connection to the incident. Police describe the vehicle as a crossover, more closely resembling a minivan than an SUV.

Finally, when a police cruiser arrived at the scene, it "came into contact with the same male on the roadway," according to a release from the Special Investigations Unit, which is now probing the circumstances.

The 30-year-old male victim has been identified.

However, since police are still in the process of notifying next of kin, his name has not yet been released.

The SIU investigates whenever someone is hurt or injured during an interaction with police, or when allegations of sexual assault are raised.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

It sounds to me like the Benz hit the guy, then he was hit by the Honda (who reported it), then was hit by the cops.

I was thinking of this while reading it

Nobody bothered to drag the body off the street? That's pretty sad being Canada and all, you would think if the person was still breathing that somebody would get them off the road..

I'm sure spinal injuries never occur on people who have been hit by a vehicle.

Nah. No need to worry about that, hey its only a lifetime of being paralyzed for them. No biggie.

Probably worried that if he did survive but sustained injuries during the 'dragging off the street', they would be sued.

But then again, this isn't the USA.

so they just left him on the road by himself instead of standing near him to see if he was even alive?

It is entirely possible that there is no safe place to stop where they were hit, driver of the second car might not have any first aid training, poor visibility etc...

It looks like there is no positive duty to act in Ontario so it would be up to the individual to determine if they are able to safely help in the situation. But as soon as you start, you have to stay until relieved by someone who is as, or greater qualified. Good Samaritan laws protect those providing assistance except in cases of gross negligence.

Under its definition, I think an untrained member of the public dragging someone with probable spinal and heads injuries across a road would qualify as gross negligence.
