Bow Trail and Crowchild is still going to remain a gongshow and probably will forever. Especially northbound between 17ave and Kensington Road. Whoever originally designed the bridge over the Bow River along Crowchild Tr. should be punched in the face.
I doubt the original design ever envisioned the level of traffic we’re seeing today. While the long term plan is set for 30 years, if there’s another economic boom in Alberta and enough money, I’m sure it’ll get moved forward, especially if West Village gets going. It’s not like it’s a massive project dollar wise today, a drop in the bucket compared to green line and ring road.

How the fuck is it the city's problem that you choose to live the furthest possible distance from your workplace? I'd say you have yourself to blame.

Maybe I like where I live AND like where I work and am willing to commute.
    Then don't complain about it?

Commuting should mean moving in your vehicle, not sitting still in bumper to bumper bullshit.

Always curious how this works. Do you move whenever you change jobs?
I did, best move I ever made, 4 minute commute if I hit all the green lights, 7 if all red. Prior to moving it was 45 minutes each way in summer and I was hell bent on moving before winter, that's a lot of life wasted in the car. If I changed jobs every few years this might not be a feasible strategy, but my first career was 15 years, now on my second and I hope to retire from this one.

I used to live 5-10 minutes from my work. Since the driving was so short, a lot of times in winter I drove further on purpose to warm up the car properly. Not sure if it was because of short commute, my exhaust was rusted out pretty bad.

Well I always assumed I'd work downtown so I live less than 10 minutes from downtown. That's served me well even though I have a smaller house and much smaller yard than if I bought in the suburbs. Even as an unemployed bum these days it's a good location because I can walk downtown to meet my employed buddies in under 45 minutes.

I'm definitely an exception. I lived inner city and hated it. Sure it got me to work in 15 mins, but I would never crack 50km/h, all stop and go, and the oil temps would still be cold by the time I hit the office so the car never went balls out. I moved into my house after I started working at Replicon, and just loved the commute and challenging corners and fast straights on various routes from the NW to downtown. Doesn't take much longer to get to the office compared to inner city funny enough, I'm averaging 18 mins a day.

I'm just lucky I've been working here for 18 years so I don't have to move. I dunno how I'd be able to manage a shitty commute daily, it'd just piss me off. The drive to work and drive home is my unwind time.

My drive home is always a piece of cake, and going through downtown is faster than taking the freeways because it's dead after 6pm. It's the mornings that suck balls. And unlike most of Beyond I'm not a lifer at an office downtown, shops tend to be scattered to outskirts of the city.

Sarcee trail at 16th ave is basically done now. How come you can't take that again and then go down 17th ave sw and along 37th and down 26th ave sw ?

I personally couldn’t afford to live inner city and be able sleep at night if I lost my job. I think a lot of Calgarians in the suburbs feel the same way

Eh, it's not as expensive as people think. You just need to adjust your square footage expectations. There's a good supply of stuff north of downtown less than ten minutes drive away for under $600k, and a few worthwhile places in the 4-500k range. Now that doesn't get you 2200 square feet and a huge lawn, but you do get lots of elementary schools, decent transit, and walkable neighborhoods, so it's not bad.

How far off track did my comment get this thread. sorry to anyone who actually wanted to talk about Crowchild trail . . . lol.

Not really, most of the stuff in 400Ks is utter garbage. And there's like 3 houses in Northmount...

When I was looking 500k got you an inner city house built in the 60s that hadn’t been updated since the 80s and probably needed 20k of repair/maintenance work right off the bat.

Moving out to the suburbs didn’t get me a mansion by any means. Some of us are just poor plain and simple

One of the biggest reasons I drive to work despite being close. Some days commute is the highlight of the day haha. I even do the outrageous detour thing every once in a while to get a few more minutes of seat time before home.
