Default Light modifiers for headshots help

I find that i really enjoy experimenting and figuring out headshots. My lighting kit so far is just a pair of cactus v5 triggers, a sb-700, stand, and a shoot through umbrella. I know I'm going to need to pick up a reflector for fill, setting up my umbrella in paramount lighting position and placing a reflector on my subject's lap. Should I replace my umbrella with a softbox and still place the reflector in the lap. Does anyone have any insight they could give me to experiment with?

Am I better off picking up something like the lastolite triflector or is this just a gimmick? I couldn't find any unbiased reviews on it except that the mk i was better than the mk ii.

Thanks in advance for the help

how big is ur umbrella? isn't that too much spill for a headshot? i guess it depends on what your background is as well...

i like a softbox + grid. the triflector is nice to handle but it depends on who or what is holding the reflector. most ppl get by find with the good ol' 5-in-1's . maybe consider a boom stand or reflector holder as well.
