My kettle does have settings. I rarely use them.
I do full boil. Rinse cup, let grounds bloom, then pour. Not boiling by then, but don't know temp.

Ideal coffee brewing temp is ~94°C +/- a couple degrees.

To go full aeropress nerd can see all the competitors techniques here. I’m surprised how short they’re brewing for

Isn't boiling temp ~94-96 °C at this elevation?

Tuomas Merikanto would disagree with you.. all those wieners above are all over the place though… but basically everyone of them is under 94C. I still stand by the fine grind being the reason for low temps.

Looks like Monogram has a sale on. Does Beyond have a particular favorite bean or collection that would be worthwhile to try? I prefer a punchy flavor profile. I grind my own beans and use a Moka pot to fill a thermos in the mornings.

Of course they have their other series (which I can't find on the website) in the black and gold packaging, which is representative of the $$$$$$$$$$ thread title

Eclipse Coffee out in Canmore has a blueberry one that is superb

Since this is the utility coffee thread, how are you dudes doing your aeropress? Like it makes half a cup of strong coffee, and I want a full cup, so it seems good with a half cup of water added. Is that the normal way? The one youtube with some dapper British guy didn't do that, but he has an accent, so he may not be trustworthy.

There is so many recipes, but yeah I found best results for a “normal” drip tasting coffee to work as you described…

Basically would stuff 30g of fine ground coffee in there, full aeroPress of water with ~1min of exposure before pressing (inverted brewing too) then would dilute to a regular 16:1 ratio to drink, was kind of muddy tasting till I reduced water temp and got that proper drip flavour out of the beans

Another resource to play with different methods: https://aeroprecipe.com/

I do 20-22 grams for 1:45-2:15 depending on the bean. I give it a good stir at the beginning and then inverting it after 45s-60s.

It's all about dialing in the grind size and brew time.

Got an email from Monogram that the subscription is changing.

    Bag size now 300g from 340g (-12%). 2 bags increased from $40 to $50 (+25%). Overall 37% increase. Ouchy.

But never fear they have a rewards program now lol

They're moving down to 300 gram bags? Ouch. I've seen it with other roasters but have personally avoided them.

I'm still roasting at home and green bean cost has definitely shot up...inflation? Could be that but unless lots are switching to 300 gram bags it seems cash grabby as they seem to be doing more than well $ wise, but who knows the inner working details.

Will be curious to see if their sales drop off after those changes, less for more is always a great model lol

End of the day this likely isn't going to change anything, we like their coffee and so does our machine. But are Monogram bags at the grocery store now $25/ea (or more)? Seems if I'm buying directly there should be a bit of a discount from retail.

Grocery store pricing probably didn't jack up yet because they're still on inventory with previous unit price but once they have to replenish, it'll probably go up. Or Calgary Coop has that purchasing power

Co-op pricing shouldn't mirror direct from Monogram imo, wouldn't want to pay premium price from the grocery store for non freshly roasted beans in most cases

Freshness matters to picky drinkers, so you'd hope the subscription bag were extremely fresh.

Ya they're very fresh, and delivered. I guess with that, the cost of delivery + beans likely evens out to retail pricing per bag, which is fair.
