50" TV vs 60" TV?

Panasonic makes the panels for every Plasma unless something's changed, so they are pretty hard to avoid! They also happen to make the best TV's you can buy at any price (VT series).

My parents have one of their 720P 50" original plasmas still running strong for 5-6+ years.

I have a panny from 2005 that's still going strong. And yep, panny makes everyone's plasma...they are my brand of choice.

I just have never had a product from them last anywhere near what I would consider to be a reasonable amount of time.

Its nice to hear that they may have stepped their reliability up since I last purchased from them, but I've been burned by them too many times and wouldn't consider going back to them because of it.

You can get 60" 1080P 3D Plasmas for $888 or 60" LCD's with the same specs as you listed for $888 as well. IMO it's cheap but $100 too much given the Black Friday deals.

None of these TV's are "high end" so you might as well get the biggest plasma you can if you want to maximize picture quality and size for your dollar.

I'm of the opinion that most people get a TV that is too big for the size of the room unless it is a dedicated single purpose media room. A TV should be part of the room, not donimate it.

Single bachelor living out of a cardboard box (12' x 10' room). Sounds like a dedicated single purpose room to me!

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'm definitely leaning towards the 60 now, especially as I expect to be able to pick up a low end panny for under $1k on boxing day.

For those arguing about panny quality, go look at cnet.com. They do extensive reviews on TV's, panny's plasmas dominate and even their low end panels have some of the best picture quality you can get in a tv set. And I loves me some plasma TV, no LED's here boss

60 inch LG plasma at costco for 899$ add 5 year warranty for 60$. 60pa6500 is the model.

55 inch led for the 899$ 55ls4600 model.


For those of you that have a 60 how far do you sit from the tv?

If you like a big picture, you'd be fine as close as 8 feet to a 60 inch. I have a 71 inch right now, in my old house it was exactly 11 feet from the screen to my eyes when sitting on my couch, 10 feet would have been perfect. In my current house its probably 17 or 18 feet and I find the screen far too small at that distance.

I am 12 feet from the TV usually. The room is 15 x 20. Sitting at the kitchen table its about 20- 25 feet away.

I have a 50" now and really it still looks good.

What I worry about is will I be happy with a lower end model with a 60 inch screen?

I am trying to decide if I should I get a higher end 50 or 55?

I'm about 7.5-8ft away from a 74" and the image is completely flawless, zero visible pixelation or anything like that. I'd go a bit bigger if I could without even thinking twice.

I finally pulled the trigger last night on a new 55". I'm upgrading from a 6 year old 42" 720p plasma. I bought the second best tv samsung makes for LED, as I couldn't justify the 8 series model over the 7500. I haven't set it up yet but I'm thinking it will be the perfect size when sitting roughly 16' away. I could have gone bigger but I didn't want it to dominate the room, and since we have a fairly tall media console below the TV I didn't want it to be wider than it.

I also have a 37" Panasonic plasma probably about 8 years old now and it is still working 100%. For plasmas, I truly believe they are the best brand. For LCD's or LED's, not so sure....

That's a pretty rare TV Kloubek, it's very uncommon to see sub 42 inch plasmas now days.

I bought it off my friend for a grand. I think he paid somewhere around $2600 for it brand new. Goes to show how cheap TVs have gotten now....
