50" TV vs 60" TV?

Trying to get an idea of what to do come boxing day. I know all of the stuff that is on sale now for black friday will also be on sale then (and maybe what I want will be one of their crazy deals), so I am trying to decide whether I should be content with a 50" plasma or stretch the budget out to get a 60" of the same model?

I've been using a really nice Sony LCD 32" tv for 5 years now. I use it as my computer monitor, video games, etc. It's just too small.

My landlord has a (46" ?) samsung hung on my bedroom wall. Room length is 12'. The 46" is definitely too small if I am laying on my bed watching a movie.

Does this confirm I should go with a 60? I`m thinking I`ll be able to get a lower end Panasonic plasma (which smokes everything out of the water anyways) 60" plasma for $1k on boxing day. Their 50" models are around the $600-$700 range and I don't see them going down much further before they shit-can their low range models and bring out the new ones.

I think you sort of answered your own question. If you find a 46 inch tv to be too small, you're definitely not going to be impressed by a 50 inch tv.

I picked up a Samsung 51" 720p tv for $433.25 from Visions + $175 for a 5 year warranty

$610 all in

60" + for sure. I have a 50" Pioneer Elite Plasma, and now that I'm in a house, it looks tiny compared to the 900 sq ft condo I was in. Just waiting for the 80"+ displays to come down in price now!

Wish we got the extended warranty. Bought a Samsung 1 1/2 years ago, now it has a nice black line across the screen.

Has anyone ever bought a TV and thought it was too big? Bigger is better, almost to the point whereby I'd take extra inches over a top quality picture. Today I'd not consider anything less than 60 inches to be a real TV, 80 inches would keep me fuzzy and warm for a decade.

Extended warranties are needed these days. I know a friend who has a top of the line (11 months old) Sammy, four visits from the service boys and finally they replaced the unit with an upgrade from the 2013 line. Beautiful TV and yes he got an extended warranty on the replacement TV.

Your credit card doesn't have 1-year extension? Most do, maybe check that. 1 yr manufacturer + 1 yr from your CC it might be covered.

720p that is almost for sure a plasma. As far as I know you can't even buy a 720P LCD over about 32-37 inches.

I got a 1080P 60" LG Plasma for $900 including a 2 year extended warranty earlier this summer, I'm sure there will be better deals than that at this point, definitely go 60" over 50"

You could get something in between, maybe? I bought a Samsung 55" LED Smart TV with 5yr extended warranty and WiFi dongle for roughly $1200 included, at Best Buy last year. I bought it for the bedroom. Some people say it's too big, but if I'm sitting in my bed, it's perfect.

Definitely go 60! Funny how during the old days, 32 inches was the biggest TV and if you had one and it has a flat screen, you are considered being a rich kid in school! Lol!

lol what Denzildon said... I'm still rocking the 32" lcd samsung I bought 5 years ago for university. I was the baller in all my circles there, but now that we're all graduated everybody's got 55"+. I need a new tv badly...but would rather get a new condo first :P

It depends on how important it is to you, 60" is a minimum for me.

I personally wouldnt buy Panasonic. I havent purchased a product from them in about 12 years as before that i had nothing but reliability/quality issues with them

Yup. Had problems with 2 LCD TVs I have owned before. Both crapped out within 3 years of using.

Buy the biggest you can afford. Like everyone else is saying, bigger is definitely better in this case.
