I used to bench this weight, I could do it with ease and I was 175lbs at the time. Definitely drew attention from the bigger guys in the gym who couldn't do it. Unfortunately it was too much weight for my frame and I consistently injured myself.

175 doing 300 with ease...? how many reps are we talking about. And how often were you working out and what was your training style.

    This is my thought.

I could do 300, sets of 6-8 reps, training for powerlifting. This is flat bench. Incline couldn't do nearly as much, decline would be much more.

I never hit my goal of 3 plates. Rep'd 295 for two or three.
I've dropped off. Haven't been in the gym since early summer.

I'm 170 lb, and I don't think I would be able to bench 300 lb in my life LOL. I'm not that committed and have no intention even try 300.

I can bench over 200 though.

    Technically if you can do 295X2 or 3, that's a 1 rep max = > 315.

Fuck you guys are strong. I'm so jelly.

I dunno if it works as they "advertise" I've inclined 285x3 for 3 sets, but wrecked a shoulder at 315...

and I only incline cause like 15 years ago I wrecked my shoulder tryin a 315 flat bench, and after that incline was "easier on parts".

My bro used to do 3 plates and a 10-15 per side back in his prime.
So 3 sets of 8 doing that. Now I think he's down to two plates and a 35 per side.

Im...... a very far ways from that lol. Fuck sakes, bench isn't my strongest. I can do over a plate per side on the preachers bench, but thats my "claim to fame" I guess.
For that its 6-8 reps X3.

    I hit 285x4 today, then 240x5 immediately after (for a set of 9), then 215x9, 205x10.

I could probably do 300x1, but I'm not going to try until Feb/March of next year. I'm 224lbs as of this morning BTW.

Felt good pushing 285 though. No pain in the joints/muscle, my fiance looking at me like I'm some sort of freak. Definite ego play there lol.

Last week I was there (Goodlife McKenzie Towne) and was spotting a guy repping 365x7. Then 315x8, then 270x8. Pretty impressive. Huge guy though.

I think you hit a point where enough weight is enough weight. Lots of big guys benching 225-245, just like I see smaller guys (like myself) benching the same weight. There really isn't a *need* to bench over 300lbs...

Now how many guys will do it? I'd say of the population that goes to the gym, maybe 5 in 100. Maybe.

With that being said, my buddy and I both can BP 3 plates. My friend weighs 175lbs and can do 1RM of 315lbs and i'm 205 and I have a 385lb 1RM. We both bench twice a week and I think its more a product of consistent routine and good form than any special physical feat. I will admit though, I'm only 5'9 so the advantage of not having long arms makes the bench much easier
I'm at beacon hill goodlife too. Now I have a pretty good idea of who you are in person from that description lol.

I weight 215 and struggle with 60/side. But I also started exercising only june '11 and i've been slacking a lot. Probably still sitting around 25% bf. I'd be happy the day I hit bw. let alone 300...

Of course I would be referring to a raw bench. No one would compare a shirted competition bench to a raw gym bench heh. That being said, like I mentioned, 3/150 of my high school buddies who workout (around 180-190lb bodyweight) can bench 300+ for a single raw. Most powerlifters, regardless of raw or shirted can bench 300+ with a competition pause as well.

I think the whole shoulder being destroyed/issues with benching 300 really is caused by form, or programming errors...more so than the actual weight itself. How can a 250lb person not bench 300lb if they trained for a year? I think this is very reasonable.

Nice lifts man. What gym are you at? 1/20 is a better ratio than any Calgary gym I've ever worked out at.

180 lbs, 6"1...I SUCK at benching conventional barbell because my arms are as long as a spider monkey's.

I can machine bench 3 plates a side (~270 lbs + weight of machine arms) x 10 reps.

I used to be able to do 4 plates a side (~360 lbs +) x 4-5 reps when I was over 200 lbs.

Machine bench probably doesn't count though!

I also work out at beacon hill goodlife, if I'm feeling strong I can push 225x6 usually I just do 205x8 though...I generally use dumbells for bench, I max out at 100/arm generally for 6 I'm 195 lbs.

I think I would split in half if I tried 300 lbs, I have seen a few ppl do it, a buddy I used to work out with back in lloyd could bench 405 for 4, he was a monster though, I also have a friend in edm that when he was training to compete could bench 405 for reps aswell...thats insane weight!

lol im at beacon hill goodlife as well, coming off a shoulder injury(not weight lifting related) just getting back to repping 225(i'm 235lbs's 6'4"), my roomate/work out buddy can rep 250 and he's substantially smaller than me(5'9" 170lbs ish) hahaha..

for some reason even being as big as i am, 300lbs seems far away! I guess we'll see where my training takes me

There are a couple guys at my gym that I have seen do 315lbs. One guy does 455lbs for 3 reps but he has a bench shirt on and is a massive guy. Right now I'm lifting 275 3 sets of 8. Don't know what my 1rm is though. I would say that at my gym 1 in 100 guys can bench 300+ but like everyone has been saying, that doesn't count the whole population.
