Very exciting times!
Tesla himself would be proud, but maybe disapointed at the same time that it took so long!

A bit pricey for me, but damn, it's exciting what electric can do. Damn LiIon batteries are gonna change the world.
And yes, their Engineering boss was formerly at Jag and Lotus.
I really really hope it catches on. I saw an interview with Former GM Vice Chair Bob Lutz. He HATED electrics, and was a large reason the original GM EV1 was killed.
But after seeing what Tesla Speedsters could do, he pushed hard to get back in the electric game, truly believing electric was the future, and the Volt was his push.
Nissan is banking that electric will be EVERYTHING, and invested countless cash into the Leaf.
Its a pretty car in and out. A good choice for COTY.
Enjoy going to the stealership in 5yrs and they go 'herp derp, you need a new battery. that will be $25,000 please'

I hate when you guys decide to move a thread to where YOU think this belongs, when clearly, this is much bigger than just "automotive news".
I went to the site and built a base one...
250km distance on a charge? I guess it's an adequate city cruiser.
Wow that is so cool, look how big the screen is on that thing. And lots of touchscreen features.
Yes, I also have a feeling (although I'm sure technology is present) we won't see big time distances for quite a while.Originally posted by flipstah

To much depends on petrol fueled vehicles.
Can you imagine the long distance ground transport system converted to electric prime movers?
Oil would collapse lol.
Good thing for Countries like India and China to fuel the global oil demand though.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Fuck you, diesel!
Beautiful cars from Tesla, no reason to hate at all.
You can get a trailer for extended touring:

Tesla dealer in Calgary..... NOPE not yet!
Plug in facility within the city? I believe there is only one with a lone plug in.
Semis need to convert to natural gas, a ton of it out there and cheap.
I can see owning a diesel hybrid before 2020 or having an electric 2 seater car for the city and a diesel for touring.

One of my friends from down in the states has one and loves it...he was pretty excited when it got the COTY nod...not that he would have rushed out and bought an accord or something if that had won.

its nice looking... but 250km max distance??? so if i needed to goto edmonton, i guess i could switch cars in red deer
That 250km max will be achieved under perfect conditions and going downhill.Originally posted by InRich

In the real world, I would expect about 30% less, and even more as the batteries begin to go to shit or you use heat and air conditioning.
Its 300 miles per charge. which is more lime 420kms. For sure this is more of a city car. They will have quick charge stations being installed throughout canada shortly. I spoke with them direct in regards to ordering one. Looking like about 115,000cdn all said and done.

We were referring to the basic model, which has a smaller battery.
actually it's under real world conditions, and under ideal conditions it's a bit longer. My buddy has stretched the range on his a few times, but no, it's definitely not meant to be a car for someone commuting to and from Canmore every day or anything like that (although it would make it theoretically). Even with the AC running and the tunes going unless you are driving it like you stole it it's good for the range.Originally posted by Seth1968

He used to have one of the roadsters too, as did another friend of his who also has since purchased one of these (he kept the roadster). Neither one of them have had any complaints with either of them.

Alberta (Boooo!) has no government supported incentives for a Tesla purchase, unlike Quebec, Ontario and BC:

Battery charge times are fine:

Besides how many of us drive 400km a day in the city non stop? Drive to Banff and back no issues on a full charge, or have lunch and top up for a further 100 kms in an hour and drive to Radium. I think these vehicles are the coolest dollar for dollar.
I think the 2014 released MODEL X is interesting as well, gullwing doors, 0-100 km/hr in 6.0 seconds and AWD:

My S4 do 0-60 in 4.9s, same for base Model S I believe (3.9 for performance model). It's my daily driver and it's in my garage overnight 90% of the time. I do no more than 200km per day worst case scenario and average about 500km a week. Replacing my S4 with Model S won't impact my life style much if at all.
But I won't in IT for so long that I know how battery works. There is no way I will buy into a system that is basically worthless in 5-7 years.
Until this is a reality, no thanks on electric cars.
