Same, I originally had the $49/6gb plan from Quebec. Then they had their boxing day sale and I emailed asking for the upgrade. Took them over a month to get back to me, but I did get it.

Its amazing. I can use my cell phone 24/7 nowadays and never have to worry about data or anything. To think only a year ago I was paying $110/month with telus and only 2.5gb

Plans these days SUCK unless you can find a rare deal. You either get a crappy plan for $60/mo and pay for most of the phone, or you get a modest discount on the phone and pay $90-100/mo for a crappy plan. It's a nightmare trying to help people find new plans.

I am still rocking this $60 no-contract BYOD Fido plan and I am very happy with it:

    • 6GB of data
    • Unlimited Canada-wide minutes
    • Unlimited text, picture and video messages from Canada to Canadian, US and International numbers
    • Call Display
    • Mini Voicemail
    • Call Waiting
    • Circle Calling
    • 1000 international LD minutes to:
    Australia
    Bangladesh
China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan)
    Germany
    India
    Italy
    Mexico
    UK

I have the BYOD Public Mobile $120 / 90 days plan, but I have a feeling its days are numbered ...

    Plan includes the following:
    - 12 GB of data (used over the course of 3 months)
    - Unlimited International Text
    - Unlimited Provincial Talk

Works out to $40 / month. Also, have a few "rewards" that I've accumulated since I initially signed up which bumps the plan down by a few dollars.

That's only for BYOD though. It's around $90-100/mo for any kind of decent plan if you want a meaningful discount on the phone. Man phone plans suck right now

I was blown a-fucking-way that we got my wife's iPhone 8 through Freedom for only $15 extra a month with the 10 gig plan (so $65/month total). The same 10 gig deal with Telus and same phone, would have been $115/month.

The Pixel 2 phones are good prices at Koodo right now. So sick of my Nexus 5X, laggy as balls, camera crashes the phone and cracked screen lol.

Don't use anywhere close to my 5G limit. Paying $50.xx for the 5g with Fido. UL Canada wide. I do have the $7 value pack which is not a must. Total is just over $60. I was going to get a new plan with a phone. Savings on the phone is minimal and then you are stuck with the bloated plan for a while.

That's a good deal for sure if there are no service restrictions with Freedom. As you obviously found out, that is easily over $100 for that plan pretty well anywhere else - its nuts. Gone are the good ol' days with $100-200 premium phones and $50-$60 plans.

This I don't understand, data is getting cheaper and cheaper but mobile plans are going up. I understand the need for upgrades to the network and new towers but this is getting ridiculous. I can't imagine cell phone data consuming nearly as much as a home or business based internet in terms of core network bandwidth

The story you often hear is it costs so much to cover Canada with service towers, which is not as densely populated as cheaper countries. There may be some truth to that, but mostly I think they are just bending everyone over because they can, especially with the Telcom companies being some of the most lucrative pretty much anywhere you look.

It's also because of the 2-year contract law. You know, the one made to protect stupid consumers from themselves, and penalize the rest of us who do our research and understand what a contract is.
