What AMVIC investigates
AMVIC receives about 9,000 calls a year from consumers. Some of these callers are looking for information and advice. Others want AMVIC's help to resolve a problem.
AMVIC has the authority to investigate complaints involving about automotive businesses and registered salespeople.
AMVIC does not have the authority to investigate or become involved in issues arising from private sales.
A consumer must submit a written complaint before AMVIC will launch an investigation. AMVIC provides an online complaint form, or consumers can write a letter including copies of all documents related to the complaint (bill of sale, etc.) and a detailed account of all the actions the consumer has already undertaken to resolve the problem.
AMVIC responds to all written complaints. If AMVIC investigates a complaint, the investigator will tell the consumer the outcome of the investigation. Not all complaints or investigations will result in enforcement action or financial compensation.
