I'm not an expert, but it's my understanding that this specific claim by the Blood tribe had significant legal merit. Far more than some others that have been in the news in the last few years.

I thought there was an agreed upon settlement. Or was this ruling due to the govt fighting and appealing the earlier settlement. Not smart considering it will cost more in the long run.

Which realistically, is exactly how it should be............................. On the reserve. Do whatever you want to govern, police, and take care of your people, live however you please, and receive zero compensation from federal tax revenues.

Would it solve anything if we did this? Or would we be back in court in 20 years with Aboriginals claiming their Elders didn't really understand the context of the agreements they were signing, so now they want us to honor some imaginary agreement they hypothesized that requires giving them a lot more money.
