Swatch!. Some styles might be noisy but they will last forever and ever.

    +10 Internet's to you sir

In that price range my vote goes for fossil and Nixon. I'll second the watchit and Costco recomendations.

Seiko's are mighty nice but you can't go wrong with Swatch.

    This thread is funny.

I'd be careful with that. I was looking at a few in a Swatch store in Munich and most of what I saw had no features for non-destructive disassembly. The cases were injection moulded plastic, sealed around the movement and the glass (plastic or some type of acrylic, it looked like) was sealed in the moulded case. What that means is if you scratch or scuff it (and the material didn't look very robust) you were screwed and there was no way to replace any of the components.

I guess that's what you get for a watch that cost 80 Euros. They seemed more like artsy conversation pieces you'd wear a few times a month or on casual friday, and not really well suited el cheapo daily beaters which should take a beating but not really show it.

I bought a watch from Watch It! in Crossiron a couple months ago...long story short the girl who adjusted the strap didn't do it right (who knew there was a wrong way to put a pin in haha) and it fell off my wrist last week. Picked it up to see the second hand laying along the bottom of the face

My wife took it in today to see what they would do and they replaced it, no questions asked...I was quite happy with their level of customer service both when buying it and when there was an issue.

Not sure what watches you may be into, but for now if I had $300 to burn, I'd look at:

Sea-Gull 815.361 - ST2130 movement a reliable 2824-2 clone 28800 bph with hacking, hand wind, etc just like the 2824-2. Sapphire front and back, perlage on most plates and bridges and cotes de geneve on automatic rotor. 40mm case, 20mm lugs, solid SS bracelet with SEL. Authentic Made in China.

Seiko SRP309 - new orange monster now with 4R36 movement. 21600 bph like the 7S, but now with hacking and hand wind. Diver's 200m watch resistance, $hit ton of lume like a good diver should have. Seiko hardlex crystal. Available on rubber or solid SS bracelet with SEL. 42mm case with 20mm lugs.

Timex Indiglo - recently famous for having been worn by US President George W. Bush. Timex should make something called "The President" ala Rolex. haha

Sticking with the Swiss in that price range, I'd look at Victorinox Infantry watch. Swiss quartz movement 38mm case, mineral crystal.
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.

Amazon has lots of sales recently on Citizen EcoDrives. I like it as I never have to worry about replacing batteries, and its Japanese movement so can't really go wrong with that as well. Swiss or Japanese should yeild solid results as I am sure you are aware, having much higher priced watches already

    Default Dare to be Different

    My first suggestion would be:

    Dare to be different..

Stay away from watches made by the so called designers "Michael Kors, Kate Spade and what have you" everyone can get one of those.

The so called quartz movements found in those are cheap chinese frankensteins anyhow.. you might as well buy the real thing with your price range, be different and not spend your money on buying a label...

I would suggest googling the following (they are all chinese mechanical movements with nice designs):

    Haas and Cie
    Sturling
    Detomaso

Have a gander at these brands. They are well within your price range, the movement while inexpensive is not too bad (plus of minus 30 sec/ day) and most importantly they are mechanical, and if you have your heart set on quartz movements they have them too. Good luck..

On a side note plus of minus 30 sec/day is actually terrible in the horological world but for your price range I believe it is perfectly acceptable..

Amazon.ca has some great deals on right now. I own three Citizen EcoDrives and love em. For your price point you can't go wrong with the Eco's.

I bought it off my dad because the face was too big for his liking, but I think he said he ordered it from Holt Renfrew.

Go see Justin, he has a wide variety of stuff in there.and can make any adjustments reliably. I have a victorinox that gets abused daily and it looks nearly brand new so something with a sapphire face would be great. Even if it is a cheap one, nothing sucks more than a scratched up face and chipped bezel like my Hugo boss. It's got a rubber strap and is my hiking/rock climbing piece if I remeber it. At The Bay I think it was around 250 a year or two ago.

I really like the design of my Fossils and Hugo but they don't take abuse well at all.

Seiko and Citizen would also be solid cheap choices. Maybe a used Hamilton depending on the style you wanted could be had in the 300-400 range I'm sure.
