Hey,

I just finished a 16 month internship at Statoil, and working there part-time as I finish my last semester at school.

Statoil is very very good, at least in my experience so far. Lots of opportunity for movement to different positions and different countries even. Statoil is fairly new to Calgary and not many people know about them (yet).

In response to your question, Statoil usually hires back students who did their co-op/internship with them. I believe this is the case with other large operators in town as well. Just to give you some perspective, the last EIT position that opened up in the team I work for had over 100 applications. Competition is fierce when applying to these large companies it seems. You have work experience, you should at least get some interviews

The rotational EIT program is a great training ground for new graduates. If the company offers you one of those positions, take it. They turn into full time permanent positions almost every time.
The company I work for does this as well. They won't hire a new grad unless they are willing to do the rotation program. I think this is getting to be pretty common.

As for who the "best" empolyers are, that's an almost meaningless question. Most companies are very good to new grad engineers as long as you bust your ass and prove that you are adding value. Besides, until you have multiple job offers, don't worry about comparing companies.
