Default Lazy day project 1991 Beat

So around the end of last summer I started looking for a project. I didnt have much room to work on something around my place so I was looking for something small.

I came across a 1991 Honda Beat in Vancouver on Craigslist
    Here is the ad:

    ime to sell some toys

    It's a mini-NSX.
    It's fun. Turn corners FAST.
    It's reliable. Fuel efficient 660cc.

    1991 Honda Beat.
    Convertible, Kei-car
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Beat

BC registered. (i think 4 yrs in Canada). Passed Air Care easily.
Odometer reads 37,000 km, but may not true.

    Recent work done...
    Steering wheel.
Removed non-functioning AC & stereo (40 lb lighter)
    Timing belt.
    Spark plugs.
    Oil change.
    Lowering springs.
    Sway bar polyurethane bushing.

    What's not good about it?
    1) Leaky soft top. ... so i take the entire top off. I only drive when it's sunny anyway. a USED no-leak soft top avail for $250.
    2) stock wheels have weird tire sizes that you can't find in North America.
For extra $800, I will sell you the 14x6 Miata wheels with new 195/45/14 tires and spacers to make it fit.

We negotiated a price, and that weekend I had my brother (who works for westjet buddy pass me over to pick it up)

I opted to go alone so I could bring back the stock wheels, in the end, I havent needed them at all, and with the amount of wheels I have been ordering, I tdont think I will, but it never hurts to have them kicking around.

Figured I would do a build thread on this car, as its somewhat unusual, and I know there is or has been a couple guys on this forum that have some experience with this car.

Here are some pics of the drive home, and the when I picked it up.

Anyways, thats all for now. Much more to update so I will reserve the next couple spots as I gotta run for now.

Awesome project! I've always love these. How was the drive back from BC? How did it managed the long hills?

    Default 13.5

Took about 13.5 hours. Met a buddy in revelstoke for a couple beers and dinner.

Car could handle the hills no problem, and could do 140.

    This car makes me happy.

    Default thanks guys...

Not everyone is a fan, infact I tried to buy some seats off of a guy on here and when he didnt like my offer, he kept texting me "insults" about the car for like 2 solid days.

Driving it around is like driving a go cart really on the street.

At the moment, I have a 4 piece lip kit, and a spoiler at Screamin Paintworks. Here are manufacturer pics of the lip kit.

I also put an axle back muffler on cutting out a huge amount of weight from the old muffler. Here is a pic of it on my couch with can for size reference.

Again I used Noppin.com for the parts. They were shipped on December 21 in Japan, and went Anchorage Alaska, Memphis TN, and the Calgary and showed up on Christmas Eve. Box looked like it had been ridden all the way from Japan but everything was in great shape!

    and inside

Gonna make an effort to take some other pics of the parts that are arriving this week incl the CF48's

Projekz - I'll send you another pm when I'm not running late for hockey.

    Default update

So, new stuff is getting shipped out today (tonite) or tomorrow from Japan, inlcuding the two sets of rims, a front tower bar, and a carbon fibre vent for the cooling on the trunk.

Here are some pics. These are the actual mugen cf48's that are coming. Still trying to track down aero covers.

The rims are 14x6 with a +35 offset. Very similar to the miata wheels that are on there at the moment.

I think I am going to plasti-dip them this in this fashion. Havent used the plasti-dip yet. Anyone got tips or tricks?

I also have a vent cover coming for the cooling gaps in the trunk. The vent looks similar to this one (they took the pic down off the auction I won) This will hide the brake light as well that is on the trunk.

Here is what the trunk looks like.

    THats all for now.

Not sure if the SSR rims will even fit. If they do they will look either crazy good, or absolutely ridiculous. It was really really hard to find 4x100 ssr meshies. For the rears I ended up with 14x7.5 -9 offset. For the fronts, which will have to be spaced out I ended up with 13x5.5 +20 offset. right now, just to make the 14x6+38's work, there is a 25 mm spacer on the front and a 5 mm on the back.

Any insite on tire size or if it will even work?

    Thanks

Looks like Honda's version of an MR2. Or should I say FF2. Assuming it's fwd.

Hope to see this at a show this summer. Awesome.
