Default Honda brake experts, need prop valve info

I have been trying to sort out which valve I need, and am finding mixed answers.

The car is a 97 Acura el with abs, to my understanding the brakes should be the same as a civic si from the same year. i think this means I need a civic 4040 prop valve with abs, del sol's have no abs, and from what I have read, the integra valve needs some brake line work (different flared endings).

Will a prop valve from a 1.7 el work? It is a different chassis but has rear discs.

    Opinions?

I *think* you need a 99-00 Civic SIR prop valve, from a car with ABS.

Been a while though, so double check!

i think the best way to get the proper response is to take a picture of your existing prop valve, why does your prop valve need to be replaced? What are the symptoms your car is having? there are only a few models of prop valves really that i have seen, atleast between prelude civic and integras. post a pic and it will help people tell you which parts you need

Rear wheel disc swap, prop valve is needed for proper pressure. I don't think pictures will do much at this point as the valve needs to be swapped for the conversion to work.

for a rear disk swap in an eg you get the prop valve out of a 94-00 integra with no abs, if you car doesnt have abs, i would be guessing that the integra one with abs will work with an el, i really dont see why it wouldnt, i would think that 4 lines are going into your prop valve, vs on a non abs car it has 6, the amount of bending you would have to do would be minimal i would think, you will probably just beable to manipulate it with your hands

This is the EL which has ABS for Sport and Premium trims.

This is the 99-00 Civic SiR, which is what you need.

More to sportel's point, the below thread outlines the different part numbers, and because the American si does not have abs, I need to hunt down a cdm sir valve.

I believe I have found the answer, 97-01 prelude has the same part number, and I found this one online which looks like sportel's. a1 honda doesn't have any, neither does pick n pull, I will see what else I can get around here, if not I will buy the one below

Just double check part#s. Go to a site like www.hondapartscheap.com, and search for tje part# that matches the same as 99-00 USDM CivicSi.

It won't match the si as the USDM si has no abs. It is the part number from the dealership for the SiR, and cross references with the prelude (97-01), and curiously enough, the USDM civic ex with abs (which had rear drums)

oops nevermind, I forgot about that. Just get the Canadian part# by calling a dealer, and then confirm the part# with the prelude one.

Here is a curious thing, I went to the junk yard today and found a 4th and 5th gen prelude. The 4th gen has a prop valve similar to a del sol, but the 5th runs one that looks the exact same as an el. Why is this strange? The prelude has rear discs and abs!

This leads me to believe that the el uses the same prop valve as the si civic with abs (USDM civic ex with abs) as they share the same suspension. The part I can't figure is why the prop valve has the same part number as the all wheel disc civic sir and prelude. Unfortunately the honda dealership had no information on the Acura el prop valve as they only bad honda manuals, so I will call an Acura dealership next...

I checked with northwest acura, they give a different number but can't cross reference with honda numbers, they seem to have shit communication skills

    Prop valve number
46210-s04-852 civic si, civic sir, prelude (all models) - 99-01
46210-s04-851 civic si, prelude (all models) - 96-98
    46210-s04-952 1.6 el

More details, prop valve 851 is superseded by 852, but they function the same, the part number for the Acura is specific to them, so honda dealerships won't find info on them. Long story short, 78si was right, the valve in the el will work as it is the same as the sir despite having a different part number.

So the one for the EL will work if you do a rear disc conversion though the EL has drums?

Apparently, my guess is because the el has abs, the prop valve doesn't function in the exact way as a non abs car. With the brain of the brake system being controlled by the abs electronics, they can run the same prop valve?

Why don't you just buy a adjustable proportioning valve? Solves all of your problems for like $100.
