Default Best calgary internet and cable packages?

Hey,So this is going to be a big year for me. I got a son on the way, me and my girlfriend are moving into a condo. I have no idea or have experience with dealing with this, and i cant seem to search anything up. So my question is whats the best provider for cable and internet services for a decent price. I guess the best way to do it is post your service at what price with details!

    Thanks for the help!

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Some condos allow for only Telus or Shaw, you don't have a choice. Shaw v Telus, you need to search Beyond as this horse has been beaten to death.

Currently the student package for shaw is not available from what they tell me.

Call telus and see if they have theirs available

Otherwise both have decent promos for new customers
But yea check with ur condo board/docs to see if they have a pre existing agreement in place.

Telus the fastest internet you can get now is 50mbps (some areas).

Beaten to death, but to summarize what most will tell you, is that Shaw is better for Internet and Telus has a fancier system with Optik for their TV.

I have both services from Telus and have no issues at all as 25mbps is fine with me.

Shaw has a new gateway system, but early reviews sucked, don't know if its any better now.

If it happens to be a brand new condo, Shaw tends to have great deals negotiated with a lot of builders. I'm getting Shaw Extreme internet, digital cable, phone, and pvr rental for $39/mo for a year at my new place. Normally that'd run more around $120/mo I believe.

If it's an old condo, you're stuck with that standard promo deals where there's very little difference between Shaw & Telus.

Extremely happy with Shaw. Not a single significant issue or downtime since we started with them back in the day when cable internet was first offered.

I'm at $135/mo for every HD channel except the premium pay channels (Porn, movie channel, etc.), and 100 Mbit internet (broadband 100). I also can completely max out my internet, so I am getting exactly what I'm paying for.

I recently signed up with shaw as a new customer and got this package:

    - Personal TV
    - Premier TV (in total with Personal TV, there are about 180 channels )
    - Best of HD pack (45 HD channels)
    - High Speed 20 with wifi free rental (20Mps download speed)
    - Home Phone with free caller ID, Voicemail, Call waiting, 250 min free Canada and U.S. long distance call
    - 1 Gateway system with 2 portals

For this bundle, the first year is $99.90/mon, the second year is
$129.90/mon, and the third year is $149.90/mon. After 36 months, the gateway system is yours to keep. No contract so you can cancel at anytime.

They will probably tell you that this bundle doesn't exist as a promotion anymore, but ask to talk to a supervisor or something.

People who never had issues with Shaw will argue this to no end, so don't worry. At the end of the day, for some shaw is reliable and fast, for others, in different areas, it is unstable and overcrowded. I used to be on Shaw in Evergreen and my internet speed would drop down to like 300kb/s in the evening time...completely unacceptable, could watch an SD youtube video without it constantly stopping and buffering. Also a few times a week the internet would completely die...which sucked for my wife who had to do a lot of online quizzes at the time. My parents didn't really have speed issues, but their service would stop like 3-4 times a week. I got fed up with this crap (mainly parents calling me because their shit is down) and switched to Telus, and never looked back. Has been solid for both me and my parents for the last 2 years, and I get my speed 24/7, even when everyone is watching porn in the evening, so for me Telus was the better option. When I lived downtown I had shaw as well and my speed never dropped as much as in Evergreen, and it was more reliable, perhaps one modem reset every 2 weeks or so.

So at the end of the day, don't commit to anyone, get the service, try it out, and if it works for you, great, if not, try the competition.

Any chance of starting a new thread and giving a quick outline of just what you have done to escape the TelAss and $haw gonad vice treatment?
