Shaw is a bunch of F*cking idiots.
I just found out today that they have been including Shaw Cable and Internet in our Condo fees. As well as charging me an additional $157 a month for Cable/Internet/Phone.
I have to upgrade a few things from the crap plans that the building offers but it sure was bitter sweet arguing until I got my $1256 dollars back today

"The Ranchmen' Club is Calgary's oldest and most prestigious private club."

so to update i decided to go with telus,
Optik TV Essentials with TELUS Internet 25
$88/month†
Regular bundled price
Optik TV Essentials
Includes:Local and US network stations
A selection of Canadian specialty stations
50 commercial-free music stations
TELUS Internet 25
Perfect for households demanding the fastest speeds for multiple users. Optik Internet High Speed Turbo satisfies everyone's need for TV and Internet speed.
Includes:Built-in home Wi-Fi**
TELUS security services
i got $10 bucks off because i bundled so it is $78 a month. Also got a $300 dollar visa for signing up, but i just looked on telus website and now they offer a 40" samsung hdtv with all 3 year contracts. Too bad the installed guy is suppose to come today and install
Note that u dont have to go with a 3year contract with telus
I'm only saying this cuz a lot of ppl seem to think u have to sign a contract with telus.
But If u want to then call in ASAP and see abt the tv (find out what model it is and google it)
Might as well get than vs the $300 visa if it's worth more
yeah thats a good point, it should be an available promo since i got it installed at my place the same day. Also the essential tv pack really sucks, there is no good tv channels available with it. I dont even get tsn! I guess i gotta upgrade my package
What channels do you get with this package? Considering switching Internet & TV from shaw to telus to save a decent amount of $$ with this bundle.Originally posted by Jsen-DC2

Telus is giving away 40 inch samsung tv with 3 year internet -
you can get 50meg internet with 10 upload with tv for 104 month
thats about 4000 after 3 years with a 40 inch tv (dont take contract unless you have too much money or you have no choice )
VDSL is really not that bad - over seas call center.
(they are good at giving credits)
www.facebook.com/westnet - westnet is expanding more . (community kind of internet service)
edit - revelations - i agree with you - its never worth it but some people do it anyway . (taking 'free' stuff) i had a tenant sign up to telus on a 3 year - left behind his shit and left back east.

^ NEVER take their free shit in exchange to be locked into their shit plans. That way you can threaten to cancel at anytime and they can give you a retainer rate plan (did this with them after they fucked up the install).

lots of threads on this. Some of us love Shaw, some of us love Telus. Some of us loved Shaw and went to Telus. Some of us were with Telus and went with Shaw. Some people have been with either provider and cant imagine changing after 15 years.
It is just a shit show. Get the best deal you can for what you need. Neither company is 'bad' per se. Just make sure you dont take the free shit from Telus and make sure you tell them 100% you dont want a service agreement.
i just hate being billed for services you never ordered or cancelled - they have so many layers of protection - the guys working shaw customer service act like Lawyers. Even they know its from their end.
Wondering how you guys even are able to do a fair comparison between the 2 to see which one has a better deal? All the TV is broken up into "Packages" and the 2 providers have much different packages.
When I asked Shaw they gave me a channel list - This is what Ch's you get with basic TV, 1-29 (or whatever it was), get tier 1 it add on Ch # - ch#, get tier 3 you get these extra channels.
But with Telus it doesn't provide what ch#'s you get, just names of CH's i haven't even heard of. The rep couldn't even help me out. What a Piss off
