Default Best Buy closing stores across Canada

Best Buy closing stores across Canada - Calgary

Best Buy has closed at least two stores in Quebec. (Canadian Press)
Some Best Buy outlets have shut their doors in the last several hours.

The electronics chain appears to have closed at least two outlets in Quebec, in Sherbrooke and in Montreal-area Lachenaie.

And the National Post reports that more than a dozen Best Buy big box outlets will close across Canada.

Calls to Best Buy Canada Ltd. for comment were not immediately returned.

    Changing retail landscape

Best Buy has been facing tough competition from discounters and online retailers, a victim of what's known as showrooming when people browse in stores and then buy the products more cheaply online from competitors such as Amazon.

The windows at the Sherbrooke outlet are covered in paper and a sign there announces the closure of that location.

Employees arrived for their shift this morning and were met by security guards and closed doors. They did not receive advance notice of a closure.

Calls to that branch are automatically redirected to the area Future Shop, which belongs to the U.S.-based Best Buy Co. Inc. Calls to the Lachenaie branch were directed to the nearby outlet in Anjou, in Montreal's east end.

In both cases, the contact information for the stores was removed from the company website.

Best Buy had announced last March, that it was closing 50 stores in the U.S. The company posted mediocre holiday sales.

Best Buy Canada Ltd. operates 139 Future Shop stores and 58 Best Buy Canada stores across the country.

Not really surprised, I can't even remember the last time I went into a BB let alone buy something from BB.

I was just at that Future Shop last night and I hope they don't close it.

I prefer buying in store since shipping costs normally eat away any savings, and then some.

They should just close the one in Northland mall. There is no point having both store in 1 single mall. A month ago I was looking to buy some items on sale in FS and others in BB. I went to FS first and turns out all the items are same price as BB without having to price adjust.

It all really comes down to which store I could find the closest parking to and get everything done in 1 store.

I've never known how these stores stayed in business. They usually have high prices, low-end product, super annoying warranty sales programs, and horribly uneducated/uninterested salespeople.

Handy when you need to run out and buy something small, but I don't think I've ever found anything "major" at one of these stores that wasn't far cheaper elsewhere, particularly online.

For every person that shops online to buy cables for $2 on monoprice, there are 5 that will pick up the $35 cable in store (if they weren't upsold to the even pricier ones). Although that ratio was probably closer to 1:50 5 years ago haha

Oviously the huge shift is business to online is going to reshape the retail landscape. I could see more store like the Canon experience store opening up and I think it's a great idea. At the canon experience store they don't actually sell any product, but you an come in gather info and test products, then go buy from who ever the hell you want, the Canon still gets the sale regardless.

That was a marketing strategy, to give consumers the appearance of competition and to drive business to either FS or BB and away from smaller competitors. Same as the 2 Starbucks on Robson St in Vancouver that are kitty corner to each other.
    heloc that shit
