Default Last days to get pennies from the banks.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-br...questions.html

Feb 4th is the day they stop circulating. 30 Billion of them out there, so many.

*cough* Well technically its less than 1,000 per person, half of which are copper, which only works out to be 3 pounds of copper per person, enough to make a small copper pot, or a copper foil hat.

That sucking sound is Elizabeth II and maybe Charles III, vacuuming up the last scraps of wealth.

Its a sad day for me

I'm actually thinking of getting a couple hundred dollars of pennies. I've been thinking of doing a penny floor in my basement bathroom...

Nice. Although I'm guessing the price of everything will slightly increase as I don't see how any big corporation is willingly gonna drop prices a few pennies.

You seal the floor with a self-levelling, clear finish (epoxy, I think?), anyway I've seen it done before, and it looks kind of cool. It is a smooth surface, but I don't know about cold - I don't think it would be much different than tile for temperature. Plus, it's pretty cheap - ~$2.50/sqft.

There's no need to change prices. Electronic transactions (credit card or cheque) are not affected, and prices of individual items/taxes are not rounded up or down. Rounding is only on the final amount (including all taxes), and only on cash transactions.

    $1.01-$1.02 = Round down to $1.00
    $1.06-$1.07 = Round down to $1.05

    $1.03-$1.04 = Round up to $1.05
    $1.08-$1.09 = Round up to $1.10

I think the rounding will hurt productivity.

How much easier is it for a clerk to pull out an extra couple pennies than to calculate rounding.

Time to pull out two extra pennies, probably maximum two seconds.

Time to calculate rounding in head, could be a solid ten seconds of rolling eyes and brain friction.

Why not a toonie floor, I thought beyond was ballers only?

I haven't carried pennies at my store in years, most ppl don't want them and they just take extra time counting at the beginning/end of the day!

    How so?

The penny is still a legal form of tender in Canada and transactions will still be to the penny for all forms of currency except cash.

Just a suggestion before y'all throw them into the coin roller and rid yourselves of them...

    http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php

Cost me 5$ to have the little one sort about 4000 of them by year some are worth a few $

Still thinking scrap value is better than penny value for the rest... LOL

    Funnies!
For anybody avoiding the link because ZenOps posted it, it's legitimately hilarious.

I’m a coin collector, and pennies are a big part of my collection. Have you considered the impact on the numismatic community?

You’ll be pleased to know that the Mint will soon be releasing a range of new coin products that we think will have great appeal for coin enthusiasts. Watch for the threenie (a welded amalgam of a loonie and a toonie), the paraloonie (a loonie with a chip out of it, worth 89 cents) and the $28 discus, made out of slices from old curling rocks.

I rarely take pennies or hand them out.. It's so much easier to round. Plus most places pos would handle the rounding for you probably.
