Mexicans? In Mexico?
I happen to have credible information that she was doing something she shouldn't have been doing, when she got beat up. I'd like to hear her insurance company's take on it after paying for a 30k+ med-evac flight home. Plus all the media sympathy she got, is just sickening. Man if we got the full story every time, the "victim" would be to blame 99% of the time.Originally posted by bignerd

price you pay going to another country and acting like a retard
same shit all over the world
I've been to Mexico several times, and while yes one can find trouble there, it's not as dangerous as some here are making it out to be. Of course you can find trouble if you're looking for it, but the same can said about canadian cities too. Actually, of all the places i've ever been, id have to say my scariest experiences were in central/eastern europe.
a lot of the comments above are like "my brother was held up 150 feet outside his hotel in [insert name of giant americanized party resort city]." the problem is that many people are travelling down for a piss up in a party town, and are out getting shitfaced and being rowdy, and then blaming Mexico when they get in some kind of trouble.

My wife and I walked up and down the main drag in downtown cabo with a bag each and a camera, both wearing our wedding rings and the whole nine yards, didn't even get looked at twice.
I agree with what everyone else is saying, if you go looking for trouble in mexico it's easy to find, walk a couple blocks off the beaten path and you'll find it. But if you're there to relax on the beach, or chill out at the swim up bar you'll never have an issue.
The best quarter pounder with cheese I've ever had was at the McDonalds in downtown Cabo...I don't know if that should be viewed as sad or not. When we were done there walked all the way back down the main street stopping in various shops, vendord, etc...no problems.
People are talking like this kind of thing never happens in Canada. Fuck, go walk around down by the drop in center in the middle of the night with a camera and let me know how you make out. Or if you're really adventurous head on down to the the east end in Vancouver...let me know how you make out.

Everyone better evacuate Calgary, hell while we are at it lets generalize all of Canada, cuz people get killed here too. Maybe we should all move somewhere where crime never happens..like...ohh shit there isn't a place
Wouldn't worry too much about anything anytime here in Calgary, but East Van is definitely a cause for concern.Originally posted by Go4Long

I've made 3 trips to Mexico in the past 4 years, Ixtapa once and Cancun/ Mayan twice. I never felt in danger once and enjoyed each trip immensely. I travel a lot, and don't have anything bad to say about Mexico. In the last 6 years I've been to Nassau Bahamas 3 times, Negril Jamaica twice, 3 trips to Mexico and a handful of times to Vegas. When travelling to tourist destinations I believe any incidents that occur are totally avoidable. If you party like a rock star and get white girl drunk, expect trouble. Go looking for drugs expect trouble, and fuck with the locals..... People need to remember you are visiting these countries as tourists, don't act like you are better than the locals.
Sooo, lets see a source of an incident here in Canada where 6 women were brtually raped in front of their spouses, and then required police protection just to leave the city...Originally posted by eblend

No, it's really not. I've spent a ton of time in downtown Vancouver and the DTES isn't a dangerous place if you just keep to yourself. Very few places in the world are all that dangerous if you're not a retard.Originally posted by heavyfuel

I'm neutral. A Mexico vacation is cheap, warm, and the food's OK. Nothing memorable about it but it's OK for a quick get away. If that's what you're looking for, then go to Mexico. If you have other expectations, I see disappointment in your future. All these media stories about how dangerous it is are a bunch of horseshit unless you go looking for trouble.
It's a moot point. Some are going to argue how "dangerous" Mexico is, and others will defend it. Neither side will change their opinions.
Do what makes you happy. Perhaps I'll go pull reports of farmers killing Canadian RCMP officers, people being murdered and dismembered and then scattered around the country via mail, etc... but it won't change anything.
Who's to say people in Mexico aren't saying "AH CANADA IS SO DANGEROUS! THIS GUY MURDERED THIS CHINESE IMMIGRANT AND SENT HER BODY PARTS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY", or "HOLY SHIT, CANADA IS SO MESSED UP... THEY ATTACK EACH OTHER WITH PICK AXES!"
... or did y'all forget about that?
That's my beef with Mexico. Mexico is perfect for people who just want the run of the mill, bring the kids, all inclusive, sit on a beach, cheap resort vacation. I don't travel for that sort of experience though, so I'd probably look elsewhere.Originally posted by Feruk

Go4long, funny but the best quarter pounder with cheese I ever ate was in Acapulco. My wife is from Mexico City. Been there tons, Acapulco 5 times, Ixtapa, Cancun, Huatulco and Puerto Vallarta a couple of times. Always feel safe. If you look for trouble and act like an idiot, you will find it. The quality of the food in Mexico is better than here by far. Way fresher. Viva Mexico cabrones!

Such a stupid argument. If you take a bus across mexico do you have to worry about some crazy fucker cutting your head off? Pretty sure that happened in Canada.Originally posted by Tik-Tok

You guys are so right, I totally concede my point that the victims HAD TO BE ESCORTED OUT OF THE CITY BY POLICE, BECAUSE THE CHANCES OF BEING RE-VICTIMIZED WERE THAT HIGH.Originally posted by ddduke

Yea, mexico is so bad that you need a police escort so you don't get group-raped twice in a row
