Default So Maker's Mark is diluting their bourbon...

I guess they can't meet demand so they've decided to dilute from 90 proof to 84 proof. Why not just jack the price a bit???

Guess I'll be buying a couple bottles with tomorrows paycheque..assuming it's not not late

Yeah, but as was pointed out in the article I read, all bourbon (and most spirits) is diluted to some extent. They distill it to 60 or 70% alcohol, then add water and flavourings to bring it to the final 40-45% and required flavour. Going down a couple percentage points in alcohol isn't likely to change the flavour much.

As long as the taste is still there... who cares?

Not a big deal in my mind. I usually throw a few drops of water into my bourban or whisky anyways. I imagine they've always diluted from cask strength and that they're just diluting a little bit extra now.

Yeah, I figured their logic was that most people will dilute it down to the 42% range anyways. It just feels criminal to compromise on the recipe instead of just add $5 to the price

I know from comparing woodford to knobb creek that there is a definate difference in just a few percent so I'm a little skeptical on this thing.

JD has done the same thing in the past.

They have reconsidered going from 45% to 42% after negative public reaction.

Maybe they will see this as an opportunity to do a special release of a "cask strength" bottle run.
