After much bitching, whining and crying, looks like we are getting what we asked for. Well, at least mostly.

Happy Valentine's Day, diesel lovers! Chrysler announced today that the Ram 1500 will offer a light-duty diesel engine when it goes into production this fall. Using the same turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 recently introduced in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Ram 1500 is expected to get even better fuel economy than the current 2013 model's best-in-class 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

Power output has not been released for the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, but in the Grand Cherokee, this engine produces 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, and it will be paired with Chrysler's eight-speed automatic transmission.
Ford Has the EcoBoost 3.5L TT offered now, and I assume this is Chrysler's direct response to that. Wonder if GM will offer something similar, and will Ford make a diesel offering too? Toyota? Nissan?

It'll be interesting to see the premium that is charged for the small diesels. If it's a small cost, I can see this being a very popular option.

Well it had better be good because the Ram 1500 that gets 25mpg hwy in the US gets 30mpg hwy in Canada

    I bet it's going to be a $5000+ option.

Depends if this is intended to be a direct comparison for Ford's EcoBoost. If that is how they are going to market it, the EB is only a 1200-1500 option, so to make the diesel a 5000+ option is way out of line, and makes a huge price differential between the two trucks, and for the price, most would choose the Ford.

I think it is going to be a sub $2000 option.

Taking the ecoboost as an example, with 385hp and 411 tq, is 6.1 seconds 0-60

With the estimates of the dodge diesel being 240hp and 420tq, I would say it should be under 8 at the worst.

And in all reality, you should not be buying the truck looking to break land speed records. I am wondering if they plan on turbo'ing this, or if these numbers are already with the turbo in place...

Personally, I think it is a good fit.

*edit* nevermind, i see in the article they are saying it is already turbocharged. That is a pretty low HP number for a turbo'd engine...

Nissan's whole truck line up is being redesigned for 2014. This includes a new Frontier, Xterra, and Titan truck. We are also expecting a diesel engine being offered as an option on the Titan line up. From what I have seen and heard the Titan looks to finally be competitive in the half ton segment with this 2014 line up.

Do you know what engine Nissan was thinking about going with? I have heard rumors of a 4 cyl diesel with comparable numbers to the Dodge! I cant wait to see what the new Titan line up looks like!

I have seen some pre-production pictures of the new Titan and its a pleasant surprise. No specifics on the engine they are using yet unfortunately.

    Not for diesel.

That is the power that MB, BMW, Audi and others get out of a 3.0L V6 Diesel.
