The consoles themselves will be almost identical spec wise.

This is a lot closer than most people think, the PS4 has the specs to push what is required for 1080p 3d on a device designed like the Oculus Rift, and with Sony always having an interest in HMDs, it would not surprise me to see them release something in the future that is basically VR.

The downside to this is that even though it can push a VR environment, it will be very limited in what it can do graphics wise for the world that you are in, and when in VR, it suddenly becomes very noticeable how low res most textures are, even on some games cranked up on a PC.

With VR comes a huge requirement on what we are going to want from a graphics card, with it currently being estimated that we need resolution around the 4k to 8k PER eye in order to have an image that the human eye cannot differentiate between the real world and the fake, requiring Vsync to be enabled and maintain at LEAST 60fps, graphics cards have a long way to go.
If ray tracing ends up being used more and more in future games, then those requirements shoot up even further.

AMD has an interest as well in the VR world as going forward they are looking at APUs to control Holodeck setups which also bring there own demands, at this time, it seems there are many things are falling into place to make VR actually happen this time and not end up as a joke.

I think it was killzone 3 that came out with a big gun think to simulate holding an assault rifle? I remember reading so many posts on the web abt arms hurting etc holding up the plastic gun for so long

Both systems are x86 and use AMD graphics but the API behind those graphics is different so there's still a lot of separate graphics coding between the two systems. As well, a couple posts I've seen are showing that Infinity has an extra cache while PS4 uses some of its RAM for things like physics processing so optimization is gonna be different as well.

That said, you're not wrong that it's going to be significantly easier to create a multi-platform game this time around, but the graphics code is still going to be very different between all 3 platforms. Not to mention PC will still get screwed with shit UIs *coughBorderlandscough* that are lazily ported from consoles.

Some thoughts:

Could be a huge advantage to have backwards compatibility out of box.

Texture size is more important to drive visuals. DVD is quite limiting, they might want to bring back the HD-DVD if not for playback for GB for extra Hidef textures. Or skip it alltogether and just go with ROM SD cards.

GTA would be great. Cod is a little long in the tooth now so I would buy it and not play it anyways. Have only played black ops 2 for like a half hour

Hopefully they resurrect PGR. They showed it in the timeline so it might be a possibility. Then Forza in the spring. I don't think they are going to mess with the controller.

GTA5 graphic seems to be tone down for consoles, doesn't seem to be quite "next gen" to me.

A new PGR would be nice. Would prefer closer to PGR 2 though, not 4. I read something about that Viking game and Forza being launch titles though, would make sense with forza being a 2 yr cycle and them having the hardware earlier than other developers.
