I have been experiencing intermittent grinding noise/vibration from my truck that I first thought was something to do with the braking system. I first noticed it more than a year ago but the problem went away from a bit and only came back intermittently. Lately it has happened more often. From my research, the culprit seems to be the IWE system and a check valve replacement is probably the easiest/cheapest fix unless damage has been done to other parts. Anyone has experienced similar problem with their 4x4 F-150?

Has there been lots of failures due to not having one? Genuinely curious, I have never had one on any of mine (2011, 2014, 2019), and cant say I know anyone that has one either. Is this more long term high mileage damage prevention? Only issues I have ever had was on my 2011 at 26k the engine was replaced. the 2014 had 216k on it when I sold it, that truck was pretty well flawless.

EDIT: I should say "most" of the engine.

I’ve had four or five fixed under warranty with the same issue likely, kind of a roughness feeling through the steering and pedals.

Truck was bought in March 2016. Would they fix it for free still since this is clearly a well known problem/defect in the design. My truck only has about 64000 km on it.

Should be covered under you 5 year/100k powertrain if that’s what it is.

I have these for sale, they may or may not have tpms in them, I was running them on my 2011 so it was incompatible. With my awesome planning I just had these brought to Surrey from Calgary and then traded my truck less than a week later 😂

Any interest out of you guys here? Obviously you'll be responsible to get them to you but thought I'd ask.

Also what would you sell them for assuming no tpms and less than 15k kms on the rubber, I feel like to a random on kijji they should be worth at least $1500? Thanks.

Looking at a 2015-17 F150 and been comparing the 5.0 and the 3.5TT. What do you guys recommend? The 5.0 appears to be the more reliable engine (less that can go wrong vs turbos etc) What are Beyonds opinions on the debate?

They drive very differently. I think any reliability concerns are overblown. Drive both, see which has the "feel" you prefer, and just buy it.

One of our current trucks is a 5.0 (2nd one), never had any issues but it feels like a dog compared to the EB. Haven't had an issue with any of our Gen 2 EB's, and only one Gen1 truck had major fixes. I personally switched my truck to the turbo once ford dropped the 6.2L from the F150 lineup. The EB pulls better, especially near peak weights, and has way more potential for easy HP. I am a bit biased, I love Ford and think you cant go wrong with either. I have seen/had both with over 200k kms on them, our fleet is all Ford less 2 guys who prefer to run GMC. Drive them both, they are quite different. I disagree with the stigma around the EB being the less reliable choice but that's just my opinion/experience. Tons of info on the F150 forums showing 5.0 problems, especially the early ones.

The 6.2L is by far the best modern engine they have ever offered, too bad they pulled the plug on it for the half tons.

EDIT: By "feels like a dog" I mean with max weight behind it. Empty the 5.0 has plenty of power for daily use.

My 5.0 has been great to me. only issue i had was the OEM battery crapped out. other than that its been solid. It tows great (in the 4k to 8k for me). i do miss the little bit more grunt of the ecoboost, but the 5.0 can handle anything i've thrown at it.

For some reason I thought the 3 year basic warranty covered that part but upon reviewing the Ford website, hubs-automatic front locking (four-wheel drive) is covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty. That's a big relieve. I'll get that looked at the next time I bring the truck in. Thanks guys.

Even on the Gen II 3.5 EB's? If they've got GDI and Multi-Port the back of the valves will be washed with fuel which should in theory reduce carbon deposits a fair bit. In my experience catch cans on a winter driven vehicle are a massive PITA and if they freeze up can wreak havoc.
Funny you mention that, I designed my own system with check-valves etc in place so it functioned properly, and on one morning this winter when we had that cold snap I guess one of the lines froze shut because my car was puking oil into the exhaust when I remote started it, so I popped the hood and when I took the oil cap off it fucken exploded everywhere there was so much crankcase pressure. Backed up the turbo drain lines is my guess and caused oil to piss out the turbos into the exhaust. Glad I caught it when I did when it had only run for a few minutes. Took the O ring off the oil cap to alleviate pressure so I could drive the truck and warm all the lines up. I made sure to install the check valves on top of the engine so the heat would help keep them moving.

I still swear by my can, when I see how much shit I empty out of it every couple of days its nice to know that shit isn't turning into carbon deposits on my valves or diluting my oil.

Emptied the can yesterday. This was after one trip to springbank airport and back. About 30-50Km. That’s all shit that would otherwise be getting sucked into my engine!

You’ll need a 3 port can, and two check valves since under boost the PCV system relies on the turbo intake to provide vacuum since the manifold is pressurized. Conversely, when cruising, the manifold provides vacuum and the check valves keep it from having a giant leak into the turbo inlet.

I made my setup myself, there are kits out there. I bought a 3 port Mishimoto can off Kijiji, and had some spare check valves laying around from the Protege. They’re just brake booster check valves I got from pick n pull. Any car will work.

Plumbed it up with some stiff power steering hose so it won’t collapse under vacuum and voila. Aftermarket setups are like $350 I did this for like $100.

**Hose in first few pictures was redone. That was just cheap heater hose and it allowed the smell to permeate through so I replaced it with proper high pressure stuff.**

Here was when I pulled the entire intake tract and cleaned it all when i installed the can. The valves were caked, and the intercooler was full of oil. No more with the catch can! This is 80,000Km. Walnut blasted and good as new.

I've got the 2.7... Will there be any huge difference?
