Line-X spray in are the best IMO. I had a taco in the past and I hated that drop in liner, although the mat did make it more bearable. But nothing beats the spray-in for quality and durability

Not sure if this should be on this thread or the RV repairs thread.

    Have a 2017 F150 and have recently purchased a 1999 Okanagan 23ft. camper (GVWR 5,500 lbs).
Truck is factory equipped with the tow package but without the trailer brake controller.
TBC was purchased from RockAuto, installed and programmed (both TBC parameters enabled) via Forscan by me.

With the camper plugged to the truck all the lights are working properly.
However, when using the TBC manual slide it pops up on the screen that there's no trailer.
No Trailer Disconnected message. Truck sees that the trailer is connected the whole time.

Driving with the trailer with the brake effort set on "High" and gain at 10.0 and I still can't lock up the trailer brakes when using the TBC manual brake coming from 50 kph.
Using on the TBC manual brake from 50 kph also takes about 60m to a complete stop.
When pressing the truck brake pedal, it feels like the trailer is pushing the truck still and I get this jerk on the truck before it comes to a complete stop.

Standen inspected the camper's brakes and plug and didn't see any issues.
Universal looked over the truck and didn't see any issues with the TBC.

Only thing I haven't tried yet is plugging the truck to a different trailer or the trailer to a different truck.

Came across this post on the F150 forum but according to user KP77 who has the same issue as I do, the fix in OP didn't solve it.
    https://www.f150forum.com/f118/trail...379698/index4/

Any ideas on what the issue is and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

That just means you haven't setup a trailer in the trailer menu. You need to save the trailer in the trailer menu. everything is fine otherwise.

Have a trailer setup in the system already and have it as active. Setup my trailer size and all that.
Even tried setting the "Default Trailer" as the active one, still the same results.

Easiest diagnostic procedure is to try a different trailer, and a different truck. you need a buddy with a trailer to come visit you.

Ya trying it on my different trailer this weekend that's similar age as mine.
Hope that helps me diagnose the issue.

When I talked to Universal they said they don't see the point of replacing the TBC that's installed as it is not giving out any errors and they were able to communicate to it just fine.

It's rarely the TBC unit itself. Wiring to the back of the truck, or wiring on traiker is almost always the issue.

Hard to justify on a 2 year lease.

Ford truck plants to shut down for another 2.5 weeks due to semiconductor shortage.

Getting painted bumper done is a smart move. Getting entire front done is good for looks, not sure if the economics make sense. I'm a fool and actually bought mine, so I went all out and got entire front, strip above windshield, and the lower body below the crease the entire way around.

I figured I should post an update, in case someone else comes across the same issue as I did.

My TBC issue seems to be resolved now.

The issue is the TBC that I installed that was purchased from RockAuto.
Though it says OEM equivalent, part fits perfectly, and was communicating just fine with my truck without any error codes, it wasn't completely compatible.
Like I mentioned on my previous post, lights are all working on my trailer, battery being charged, and brakes work (though very weakly).
Had the TBC replaced with one directly from Ford and I no longer get the "No Trailer" message on my dash even though there's a trailer hooked up when using the manual slide.
Didn't have time to completely hookup the trailer and test the brakes yesterday but I'll be doing that this weekend.

Looks like it breaks just like Ford parts do.

Thats weird, but glad you got it fixed. The Ford TBC unit itself basically never fails. Any time someone has a problem with it, it's something else causing it.
