I daily my 3.5, used to be tuned but I'm back to stock for driveability. I had a 2.7 for a rental during some service and I definitely noticed the power difference (stock to stock to be clear), the 3.5 has way more "meat" to it it feels. The 10spd mates well with the 2.7 though, it feels like the shift strategy is a bit different for it. Now, the rental was also a fairly bare XLT vs my loaded Lariat so there would be a significant weight difference as well. In the same truck I'm not sure the 2.7 would wow me.

Edit: girlfriends sister drives a supercrew XLT "loaded", leveled on 35s and it would still break those loose and drive good. So its not all negative. Its just not 470ftlbs of torque positive
IMO... a normal with a basic tow package xtl 2.7 is almost the perfect all around "Utility" truck. It hauls, tows, carries people and stuff really well and efficiently.

I know people who beat on them and get 12.7 in the City and they are very very good on the highway with standard tires (well all half tons with P rated tires are much better on fuel)

The Tacoma TRD offload (no leather), the new gladiator are cool, really cool but are such CASH grabs. When it actually comes down to actual usefulness, and function the F150 plenty of capability, way more CAB room (tons of people start complaining the lack of space inside the gladiator and Taco), its 5.5 DEEP box carries almost anything you need bulk wise from a construction job, holidays, carrying toys and can "actually" tow safely and with ample power.

Not to mention its proper quick

All that, and as Ford still owns its financing, you can lease one of these buggers for nothing... so the overall TCO for new truck is basically fuck all

I get how people say, "I would love a Jeep with a box" -- well now there is one, and there has always been the Taco... but people who need trucks don't need a gladiator or a taco

The F150 2.7 10 speed aluminium body is probably the lightest and most functional fuel efficient of all the half and 1/4 tons and has ALL of the same usefulness of a half ton.

So I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up a new truck and was wondering how much more the dealers would move off of the advertised price online. After building a truck it already lists the discounts already and it seems reasonable. Would a carcostcanada report be worth the fee?

So far I’ve looked and test drove a Tacoma but it’s a steep price for what it is at $47,xxx for a trd sport. I figure for about the same price I could get a full size truck.

You can easily get a full sized for that price. It’s common to get into a very well equipped XLT for sub 40k.

yep. My 2012 F150 XLT was pretty basic in terms of options, and I think I got it out the door for $32,500

If you shop around you can get a 2019 loaded lariat for price of that Tacoma. Trust me, coming from a Tacoma to an F150, I find its well worth it.

    Yep. I’ve seen this.

I’ve even seen a base lariat with the 2.7 for $43k. That’s before another $1500 off to bring it to invoice and not even dipping into the holdback.

Some people prefer the smaller trucks regardless of cost.

Yes CCC report is the way to go on this. The $9000 is from factory, if you go to car show you can sign up and get another $750 voucher. If you go for the 502a Lariat with sport package there is another $2,000 and when you pull the CCC report it will show that markup is about $6,500. There are dealers that will do cost plus $500 on them so that's another $6,000 off the price or so. These are the highest volume vehicles in Canada so it's pretty easy to get discounts on them.

When you go to CCC website, sign up for a new account and use the promo code: motormouth this will give you 5 free reports. Good luck in your search.

Do you mean XLT with the 502A? That also qualifies for 2 grand.

All in all, great savings right now.

A base lariat for 41 is sort of the absolute sweet spot.

XLT only has 302A Luxury package. 502A is Lariat specific

Economics on a lightly used half ton are terrible, too many people want crack money because everyone is underwater, if you want something recent it’s really hard to make the numbers go around versus new with all the incentives these days.

The only cheap recent trucks are beat to shit work trucks that don’t get enough maintenance.

Yes, there's no value in a 2 or three year old truck. New makes far more sense. You need to be 7-10 years old before you see much of a discount.

Not all lariats are loaded the same so be careful, they have the 501 and 502 packs which are quite different. 502 is the top lariat which gets you a lot of things extra over the 501.

Thats gotta be an easy 60k truck if not more. A V8 in a 1/4 would be fun no doubt but i cant see Ford or GM offering this anytime soon unless its on some type of special build, way too much motor for that size of vehicle

Agreed, When i was looking 2 years ago i was thinking of getting a used truck but anything 2-3 years old was going for crack money even on private sales.

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.
