Not quite sure if it's an apples-to-apples comparison but it's close; my '16 F150 on DM-V2s versus '22 [gasp] ram 1500 on DM-V2s, the ram has felt more sure footed. I'd attributed it to newer winter tires, which I'm sure has an effect, but the commentary on diffs makes sense.

I'd be shocked if the weight on the rear of the truck was all that different.

    - - - Updated - - -

I also think I'm enjoying the auto 4wd more on the ram. the IWEs in the ford, when 4wd engaged, you really noticed it...
There is a big difference in the weight of a steel box versus an aluminum one for sure.

Don't get me wrong though... It isn't like I disliked my F150 at all. I am just commenting more that the extra weight sure is noticeable driving the Deerfoot north and the range roads on sheer ice with crazy winds coming at you from the sides. It 100% feels like there is far less buffeting and skittishness. Leaving my parking on an incline in deep snow here in the forest outside water valley too I can do it in 2WD with my Duratacs (I am not driving dedicated winters on my trucks) no issue where as my F150 I would always have to lock in 4WD on the same tires in the same conditions. Other than that though I had no complaints about my F150 previous. It was a good truck to me.

Studded duratracs on my raptor and yes, I agree that the f150’s are a bit light to make them work properly.
Compared to the company gmc at4 half ton with non studded duras, which has more mass and helps plant the truck better in these slippery/snowy conditions

half ton P rated tires are like 275 width in general whether on 18s or 20s...

a thousand pounds of weight is a HUGE difference and this observation is probably quite spot on. The F150 went to lighter weight springs, smaller pumpkin and rear end gears when they went Alu - wonder if they should have gone to 265s or 255 tires (or a 255 recommendation with the same load rating for Winter)

But bro, my MT tires look better at 305 width.

Also dudes, the F150 is NOT significatnly lighter than the chev. Sure as hell not a thousand pounds. Sure aluminum is lighter than steel, but the truck overall is very close to the same. You can check the internets, or take your truck to the cat scales to prove it to yourself.

A regular cab long bed seems to be 300+ pounds different and I imagine it scales up more as the configuration changes and more metal etc is added. I can't speak for your driving of course, but adding 300lbs when slipping and sliding 300lbs does help me. It's why even a sand bag or two will be found in the back of pickups everywhere in winter.

Again, this is not saying the F150 is useless... It is just something that was noticeable to me going from a steel truck to an aluminum truck and then back to a steel truck again. Anecdotal? Sure... But I think the premise is sound.

But we don't know if the 300lbs is even in the bed, or if it's in the cab. Maybe the F-150 is just as heavy in the rear. We need to corner balancing to really find this out.

Does anyone have any first hand experience changing the passenger valve cover on the 3.5 EB? I found a leak on my 2014 and its either the valve cover or the vacuum pump but the google machine tells me that its a pretty common issue for it to be the valve cover.

You spending time in this thread is as weird as me spending time in the Apple thread, which isn't a flattering comparison for either of us.

Fair enough, but I think logically you would be able to assume that the weight of a steel box is more than the weight of an aluminum box. Also, overall weight is important as I think it is a fair assumption that most of us will be in 4WD when the road is a solid sheet of black ice or we are slipping and sliding around in a ton of snow so just comparing the weight over the rear wheels is not the full picture.

Wouldn't less weight make it easier to stop? I think I'd rather have to throw it into 4WD to get moving vs a heavier truck, and have a shorter stopping distance. I can always add more weight via throwing shit in the bed. I can't take anymore away.

got my info package from Ford credit for my '21 lariat lease-bro deal. man, the amount of damage they allow for a lease return is crazy. Like a cig burn in your seat is fine as long as its max 2 burns per panel lol wtf.

My buyout including GST is going to be $50k so at this point, I think I'm going to buy and keep it. Going in I had no intention of doing that but based on the $58k sale price there's no way I could get a similar truck for as good of a deal.

I see some 24mo leases on chev trucks but those are pretty basic units not the nicely optioned ones. If anyone knows of any other sweet lease deals, let me know. Dealer indicated I had about "$7k" of equity in my lease currently so basically they would buy it off me for about $57k at lease end.

I think that depends if the truck needs to bite down harder or not. Tire design on winters with all the siping etc you want it to squish a little and open giving more biting edges and if slipping of spinning the open sipes act like squeegees and sweep the surface of moisture as well as give more room to evacuate water and snow etc. Where I notice the most improvement is when the truck is getting buffeted by heavy cross winds like I experience driving north on the HWY 2 or along HWY 22 and the township and range roads coming home to WV. Heavier feels more stable. Lighter gets sketchier faster...
