The 2.7 ecoboost with 3.73's got as good, if not better mpg in the city if it wasn't all complete stop and go every 200 meters.

At 1300kms of range a tank, it lasted forever in town. I can't imagine a low power hybrid making that big of a difference unless you were judicious with using electric mode to get going.
That goes back to my previous post about doubling the battery and HP of the electric motor. Trying to accelerate from a dead stop at the lights and keeping it on electric only, would take you 25+ seconds to get up to 60kph assuming the battery had enough charge. It's not really feasible.

If they did double those 2 things, it would be a much better setup hybrid, but I don't think Ford wants to do that as it would probably detract sales from the Lightning being a lot more budget friendly.

I wanted the 3.5L for the power it has over the 2.7L when towing and hauling, it also has better resale value. I figured that pairing the 3.5L with the Hybrid would get me the best of both worlds, but, I don't think I really got either in my use case. I have heard of other people reporting insane numbers with their Powerboost trucks, but I can't get anywhere near their numbers.

Just to show, this is my trip 1 odometer, aka, my lifetime trip odometer.

Shows my lifetime mileage, but the total distance display is wrapped and should have a 1 at the start.

I think the 4x4 powerboost is only available with the 3.73. I think the only way to get a lower ratio, the 3.55, is to drop 4x4 and settle for a 2wd truck.

Honestly, I would have just kept the old truck. The 3.5L ecoboost is plenty of fun. The hybrid is more powerful off the line, but don't think it's worth the extra dollars.
unfortunately it seems like maybe the Tundra, due to Toyota's extensive Hybrid experience, has seemlingly made it a more effective product.

I did some research on the Tundra Hybrid, and I don't think I would agree with your statement. The Ford has an 85hp electric motor versus the Tundra's 43hp electric motor. The Tundra does have a slightly bigger battery at 1.85ish vs 1.5 in the Ford. In my use case anyways, I don't think that is the answer. I think in vehicles this heavy and large, we need to get the HP to about 120ish on the electric motor and get the battery to something over 2 -2.5 KWh. I think that will be the sweet spot, and make the Hybrid trucks more usable for those of us wanting to save anything meaningful at the pump.

it is a ridiculous tag for sure. but, when you factor in what you are saving in paying for gas vs electricity, the price doesn't seem so bad. And versus a regular platinum, it's really only about $10-15k difference.

You should see the delta in 3 years of fuel savings, roughly.

I spend maybe $200/month in gas, but I rarely drive. I priced out a Lightning Lariat, and with the extended range, and all the options my current Lariat has, it's $100k even, with is about 28k more than the MSRP on my truck.

I'm really excited for the Lightning to be widely available, I think it's going to be a cool truck. Not sure I'm interested in for myself, but like to see the options out there.

When I had the business, it was 50k-80k kms a year.

Or when I had my one way 45 minute highway commute.

This truck wouldn't pay for itself, but a model 3 base would and then some at $2/L
