Yes, council passed the Area Structure Plan final reading this morning and now the Badlands Motorsport Resort is an approved Bylaw in the county of Kneehill.Originally posted by reijo

Common sense and logic won out in the end - heaven forbid.
As for that public hearing: I have never in my life heard so much outright lying and bs in a single day on the part of the opponents. Simply unbelievable.
I would be absolutely ashamed of myself had I stood up in front of an audience and said such things (quite frankly I would not dare!) ... often without knowledge notably. Shame on them!
This is a respectable and respectful proposal on the part of BMR and did not deserve that audience!

Really, really super awesome news. I can't even imagine the amount of work and money spent behind the scenes to get this far.Originally posted by JZatBMR

Forgive my ignorance I know there is lots left to be done, but was that the last really big hurdle that needed to be jumped over?
wasnt everything broken down earlier?
get approval
get investors/sell memberships
get the core track done
get out buildings done
get residential done

Elsewhere, JayatBMR conflated the Area Structure Plan with the BMR itself being "law" in Kneehill County. That is not at all the case. Below is my understanding, and feel free to rebut any points. (And note that I oppose this project for several reasons.)Originally posted by reijo

1. The vote today passed by a much slimmer margin than the 2nd reading. (4:3 instead of 6:1).
2. The next stage of the process (zoning as I gather) will involve up to two days of public hearings and
another chance for council to definitively vote it down.
3. Those hearings have been delayed til late fall, *after* county elections. So there is now another delay in the potential for breaking ground, AND it is now an election issue. Incidentally, as everyone who attended the hearings knows, there is a tidal wave of opposition from nearby residents. Granted, many of those are in Wheatland County, but I believe we will see others opposed in Kneehill as well as the project gains exposure.
Also, of the 86 letters Council received from anyone who wrote in (not from any particular county or region), *85* were opposed.
Finally, there are some very strong accusations being flung around about the public speakers. There was a professional acoustician and a research scientist there who cast much doubt on the previous noise and environmental impact studies. Regardless, what "outright lying and bs" are you referring to? What examples?

That was no professional acoustics engineer! Did you not listen? He works with some engineers but he had nothing in writing from them. That is a HUGE difference. Our sound engineers did a study and put a stamp on their work. They are required to be unbiased in their opinions being Professional Engineers. I'm afraid I can't say that for your sound guy/technician. Figure it out. Spend some money and get a real study done. We did.
And "much doubt"? Obviously, you are hearing what you want to hear ... do you hear this? Oh, yes, .... you did not read (along with your compatriots) the ASP at all or you would not have voiced half the BS you did at the public hearing .... READ SOMETHING before you open your mouth and you will not sound like such idiots.
You would also realize that almost all the development is NOT in the environmentally sensitive areas and that we avoided them because WE WANT TO PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT TOO. Yes! We are on the same side as you! Figure it out! Do a study! Spend some money!
Cheers!
Reijo (No, I'm not for unwontonly destroying our environment either! By the way the environment includes 110 db combines, agricultural chemical and dust according to one of your speakers who was concerned about the environment)

Further, if you were truly unbiased and wanted to look at facts, read the ASP ... it was available to you.
And, I am calling a spade a spade ... as I see 'em. You dug yourselves into a hole by not truly being informed or open-minded. Your narrow focus and closed-mindedness is limiting to you but there is hope for everyone. Everyone can be saved from a cult if they like.

See on one side we have this. A professional organization, acting in a reasonable, rational manor. Spending money on professional assessments and reviews. Doing proper due diligence.Originally posted by reijo

Then the other side. I don't know any of them personally but in this thread alone they have been extreme, reactionary, misleading, and completely uneducated about the facts at hand.

Same story at the public hearing - very uninformed bunch of people.....surprising and sad to see. They could certainly add to their credibilty by doing a bit of research ... I don't know what the hope of that is though. Some people will never let facts change their minds or ways. Tragic really.
Only one professional biologist (no other professionals that I noted) on their side but one who has a history of being against any kind of development whatsoever. So, obviously he is very biased in his opinion ... another Suzuki ... As a consequence, who would listen to someone like that? He is losing his credibility simply by these biases.

The unfortunate thing with these situations is it's the uneducated and misinformed loudmouth who typically gets things to go their way. They make people scared and use fear to build misplaced resentment.

Yes, I have become sickened to death of that ... nimbys. But I like to think that we are becoming wise to their ways and are less likely to get sucked into mere hype and bellowing.Originally posted by JRSC00LUDE

The truly ironic thing is that I sincerely believe this to be a win-win development for the community and county and motorsports enthusiasts. Well, maybe one exception is the enviro-nuts who want no development whatsoever, anywhere. I guess they want us to move to the moon or something? But I'm *sure* we would *ruin* the environment there too, eh?
R (still pondering my rich status ... which also came out in the public hearing ... lol) BTW, I do own a Ferrari 250 ... but it is 1/24 scale.
